Biosphere - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The biosphere is that part of a planet's outer shell—including air, land, surface rocks and water—within which life occurs, and which biotic processes in turn alter or transform.
From the broadest geophysiological point of view, the biosphere is the global ecological system integrating all living beings and their relationships, including their interaction with the elements of the lithosphere (rocks), hydrosphere (water), and atmosphere (air).
The biosphere is an important concept in astronomy, geophysics, meteorology, biogeography, evolution, geology, geochemistry, and, generally speaking, all life and earth sciences.

The 'biosphere ' is that part of a planet's outer shell—including air, land, surface rocks and water—within which life occurs, and which biotic processes in turn alter or transform.
The biosphere's ecological context comes from the 1920s (see Vladimir I. Vernadsky), preceding the 1935 introduction of the term "' ecosystem'" by Sir Arthur Tansley (see ecology history).
For example, geochemists define the biosphere as being the total sum of living organisms (the " biomass" or " biota" as referred to by biologists and ecologists).

GEIR JENSSEN, the driving force behind BIOSPHERE, was born in Tromsø, a city in nothern Norway situated approximately 800 kilometres north of the Arctic circle.
Deepening the original concept of state-of-the-art ambience, the record (which was preceded by the single Seti Project) further explored uncharted regions of inner and outer space, crossing the hinterlands of hi-tech dance with a stunning, unheard intensity.
In between the intensive touring that followed in the busiest year of his career to date, Geir still found the time to get married and to start wo rk on a brand new album, release of which is expected in the autumn.

AltiKa is aiming to observe the ocean in as much detail and as accurately as current missions, only at lower cost by flying the altimeter on a microsatellite that is cheaper to design, build and launch.
The eight-millimeter wavelength is better suited to describing the slopes of small facets on the sea surface (capillary waves, etc.) and enables more accurate measurement of the backscatter coefficient over calm or moderate seas.
The one major drawback of Ka band is that attenuation due to water or water vapor in the troposphere is high.

Our findings imply, in particular, that the remaining life span of the biosphere is considerably shorter (by a few hundred million years) than the value computed with geostatic models by Caldeira and Kasting (1992), and other groups.
The ``habitable-zone concept'' is also revisited, revealing the band of orbital distances from the Sun warranting Earth-like conditions.
In this case the life span of the biosphere would realize the maximum life span, i.e.
