What Does Biphobia Look Like? (Bisexual Resource Center Pamphlet)
Bisexual women and men cannot be defined by their partner or potential partner, so are rendered invisible within the either/or heterosexist framework.
This invisibility (biphobia) is one of the most challenging aspects of a bisexual identity.
Living in a society that is based and thrives on opposition, on the reassurances and "balanced" polarities of dichotomy affects how we see the world, and how we negotiate our own, and other peoples lives to fit "reality."

Biphobia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Biphobia is the fear of, discrimination against, or hatred of bisexuals.
It need not include homophobia or heterophobia, because there are stereotypes that are specific to bisexuals.
It is fair to note many anti-bisexuals are also anti-homosexual, while maintaining there are only heterosexual and homosexual as sexual preferences, and a common stereotype is that female bisexuals are attention seeking heterosexuals, while male ones are just homosexual.

I categorise this as biphobia because it constructs bisexuality as transitional, a delusion, cowardice, or as untrustworthy, rather than a legitimate sexuality.
It is the biphobia which I think a lot of us in the queer community carry around very quietly inside our heads, influencing decisions we make about both sexual activity and identity.
I view biphobia, and the constraints it places on the expression of desire, as a manifestation of sex negativity.

Monosexuality - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If the term is used in a non-exclusive sense the proportion would be lower and many people think that Kinsey's figure is too low, saying that no-one is exclusively monosexual, and that the 90 to 95% testing as such were just in denial or closeted because of biphobia (see: Homosexuality#Humans are all bisexual).
Freud thought that no one was born monosexual and that it had to be taught by parents or society though most people appear to believe that monosexuals are in fact the majority and identify as such.
Fred Maus (2004, p.164) compares the criticism of Béla Bartók's works for their use of tonality and nontonal methods unique to each piece to the bias towards monosexuality and against bisexuality (see biphobia).

The purpose of this sixth lesson in the unit is to introduce the education student to the mental models, concepts and constructs known as Homosexuality, heterosexism, homophobia and biphobia.
In sexism, heterosexism, biphobia and homophobia, the establishment of arbitrary, dichotomous and mutually exclusive gender roles, with the masculine gender role being considered superior provides the basis for the control of those who deviate from, who fall out of rigid gender envelopes.
Biphobia is the fear of the other and fear of the space between our categories.

There are things in there that are more matters for equal rights activists to address, rather than being things that put bisexuals in danger on the street (as is the case with the colloquial use of 'homophobia';).
Biphobia can do too, but it is more an issue of understanding and attitudes.
It's made worse when some of the people that show the least understanding are people from the gay community, who would be expected to at least appreciate some of the difficulties that are faced by those of a minority sexuality, rather than adding to the prejudice.

However, findings also suggest that these were not correlated to levels of biphobia.

As far as the terms "biphobia" and "heterophobia"...they are invalid because nonexistant.
Whatever disgust a gay person shows towards bi's and straights is founded on truth, not illusion...and homophobia possesses such extensive dimensions of hatred, violence, and ignorance...that to even accuse a gay person of either biphobia or heterophobia is in itself a homophobic manipulation.
If heterophobia (or biphobia) were real, we'd have roving gangs of queers bashing straights (or bi's), queer property owners evicting them, and queer employers firing them.

After accounting for general support perceptions, internalized biphobia was the only outcome variable that was predicted significantly by both friend and family support.
