The Romulan Bird of Prey class starship, a 2260s-era fighter seen in "Balance of Terror", featuring a cloaking device and a powerful plasma-based weapon and easily identifiable by the red and yellow painting of a bird on the bottom of the hull
The use of the term with respect to Klingon ships was in itself an error by the writers, who changed the enemies in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock from Romulans to Klingons without updating the dialog.

 BirdPrey
This morning, October 18, 2002, the Air Force and Boeing unveiled to a small group of selected journalists the Bird of Prey, a previously "fl" or ultra-secret airplane prototype that was built and tested in the mid-1990s.
Senior officials at the October 18 unveiling of the radical prototype—named after the Klingon spacecraft in Star Trek, which shares its aft-set, cranked wings—acknowledged that the Bird of Prey was designed to be stealthy enough to survive in broad daylight.
The Bird's innovative features are sure to inform the design of next-generation stealth aircraft, but the plane itself, having served its purpose, is being retired—which is why Boeing and the Air Force were willing to make it public today.

In a recent conversation of the Flare sci-fi message boards, we were discussing Brannon Braga's comment that they had "accidentally" referenced a "Klingon bird-of-prey" or "Klingon warbird" in "Enterprise," and he apologized to continuity-minded fans.
While we were discussing the vast difference between Romulan ships (which have always been based on birds) and Klingon ships (which took on some birdlike characteristics AFTER they allied with the Romulans, about 100 years after Enterprise takes place), someone mentioned that Romulan ships have big birds on their hulls.

Although Star Trek: First Contact is by far more exciting and interesting, Generations still has a good premise, stunning special effects and serves as a launching point for three more Star Trek films starring the Next Generation cast.
Star Trek fans would know that there is no way a Klingon Bird of Prey could beat a Galaxy class starship even without shields, the Enterprise should have been easily able to pound the Klingons but what's done is done and we got a new Enterprise next movie (miss that at your peril).

Boeing's Bird of Prey technology demonstrator, unveiled in St Louis on 18 October after spending a decade in the world of 'fl' or classified programs, is a very important step in stealth technology, combining a very low radar cross-section (RCS) with a renewed focus on visual and even acoustic signatures.
An unusual feature of the Bird of Prey was that it was designed with an all-manual control system, with pushrods and a mechanical mixer box linking the stick and rudder pedals to four control surfaces — elevons on the inner wings and 'rudderons' on the outer wing panels.
Many features of the Bird of Prey support the hypothesis that it was designed for unprecedented RCS levels: possibly an RCS of -70dBsm, or rather smaller than a mosquito.
