  Bird Sounds:- Songs and Calls
Distress calls are restricted to juvenile birds and generally serve to bring an adult to the rescue of a young bird in danger.
Gannets are colony nesting birds and a nesting site can have thousands of birds coming and going in a noisy melee that would befuddle a human listener, yet gannets can distinguish the calls of their particular mate from all those around them on the basis of only 1/10 second of the total call.
Some species of birds show definite learning skill; they sing a song that is a bit of mess at the beginning of their first season, but after a couple of weeks of practice become much better at singing the species' anthem.

 Songs and Calls
Birds living in dense vegetation such as in rainforests or thick reed beds have loud voices since vegetation absorbs sound as well as obstructs vision.
So birds have evolved calls and songs at least partly in response to the structure of the habitat in which the call is given.
The bird eventually produces a song of about the normal length (2-3 seconds), but it fails to divide the first part of the song into phrases as a normally-reared Chaffinch does; or it does not end the song with the normal elaborate flourish.

Bird song - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bird songs are certain vocal sounds that birds make—in non-technical use, those sounds that are melodious to the human ear.
The avian vocal organ is called the syrinx; it is a bony structure at the bottom of the trachea (unlike the larynx at the top of the mammalian trachea).
Models of bird song motor learning are sometimes used as a model for how humans learn speech, and indeed they share many similarities, such as requiring teachers, practice, error-correction, and eventually becoming more difficult to learn after the bird or human reaches sexual maturity.

Birds communicate by songs and calls or other noises, like tapping and drumming.
Some birds are able to mimic the songs of other birds (catbird, mockingbird), humans and car alarms (starling).
Without communication, many birds would starve, lose their way during migration, be unable to defend a territory or find a mate.
