BBC - Health - Conditions - Bird flu
The appearance in humans of a type of flu that normally only affects birds may be an important sign that some strains of the virus are changing, or mutating, in a way that could threaten people around the globe.
Although these birds aren't affected by the virus, domestic poultry such as chickens and turkeys are - and so are people.
The H5N1 virus was first shown to have passed from birds to humans in 1997, during an outbreak of avian influenza among poultry in Hong Kong.

Bird flu has led to the deaths of hundreds of millions of wild and domestic birds and to a small number of human deaths.
Most people who have developed symptoms have had close contact with sick birds, though in a few cases, bird flu has passed from one person to another.
Health officials are concerned that a major bird flu outbreak could occur in humans if the virus mutates into a form that can spread more easily from person to person.

For 13 seasons with the Boston Celtics, from 1979-80 through 1991-92, Bird personified hustle, consistency and excellence in all areas of play--as a scorer, a passer, a rebounder, a defender, a team player, and, perhaps above all, as a clutch performer.
Bird was so self-confident that he was known to waltz up to the opponents' bench before tipoff and predict a 40-point performance for himself.

The field season of the 107th annual Christmas Bird Count season ended on January 5th; tens of thousands of volunteer birders both braved stormy conditions in the west, and counted in absurdly mild conditions in the east on their respective count days.
Over the next few weeks we will see how the determined efforts of CBC participants--and the weather-- determined what birds were found, and in what numbers, from the high arctic to southern South America.
Meanwhile, the 106th Christmas Bird Count summary issue of American Birds is completed and was sent out in October, with feature articles highlighting peoples’ experiences on the CBC over the years.

Clint Eastwood's moody, evocative direction and Forest Whitaker's strong, sensitive performance are the chief proponents to recommend an otherwise muted biopic of '40s jazz legend Charlie Parker, who fell victim to his chemical excesses and convinced the doctor who pronounced him dead that he was a good four decades older than he actually was.
Eastwood produces and directs Bird, a film burnished with the magic of that 1946 concert encounter between legend and future legend and honored with an Academy Award for Best Sound in its spellbinding recreation of a man and his music.
As far as the DVD, the sound was very good in the Dolby Dig 5.1.The picture was presented in the original widescreen aspect, but was very dark in places, making the actors undistinguishable at times. This may have been the way the film was made due to the dark content of the story.
