Bill Oddie was one of the many talented comedians and broadcasters who were part of the Cambridge Footlights in their student days.
One of Bill Oddie's most notable TV successes was in the hugely popular 1970s and early '80s comedy The Goodies with Tim Brooke Taylor and Graeme Garden.

William Edgar (Bill) Oddie, OBE, MA (Cantab.) (born on July 7, 1941 in Rochdale (which was, at the time, part of Lancashire) is a comedy writer and performer, author, composer and musician.
The programme revealed that Oddie was raised primarily by his father after his mother was placed into long term psychiatric care suffering with bipolar disorder; and that his mother had had one miscarriage and then lost another child, a girl, after five days.
Oddie speculated that his mother would have felt that his grandmother (whom she lived with) was to blame for the death of her daughter and that this psychological trauma may well have contributed to her mental ill health.

This time my sole function (apart from the Annual General Meeting of the Reserve) was to make sure Bill Oddie and the BBC crew saw everything they wanted to.
Bill was making a special one-off film on the wildlife of Patagonia (for transmission just after Christmas) and we (Fundación Patagonia Natural and the World Land Trust) were providing all the facilities.
Bill was able to see plenty of Guanaco, lots of Mara, wild Guinea Pigs, Armadillo and much more.

In my short birding life I've only seen one vagrant (the Squacco Heron in Northumberland at present), and I was thrilled to bits, but there's something a bit special about seeing a really nice bird in its natural habitat.
He said "this bird is related to...." and then got interrupted and never said what the bird was related to.
I seem to remember this one, teenage daughter who wanted to be anywhere but birding with her father.I seem to remember he packed wife and daughter off to Disneyland while he got on with the really important stuff.
