Birdman, the company's second "straight" superhero (i.e., not hoked up like Atom Ant or The Impossibles), debuted as the main star of a half-hour show on NBC, on Saturday, September 9, 1967.
Birdman's super powers came from Ra, the Egyptian sun god; and therefore he could be de-powered by keeping him away from sunlight.
Birdman's show ran two seasons, a total of 20 half-hours — that is, 40 adventures, since he occupied two of the show's three segments.

Radio Birdman were naive...they didn't know what the rules were at the time, and if they had known they probably wouldn't have cared, so they fell in the cracks.
But the Radio Birdman’s intensity also brought them a small but dedicated cadre of hardcore fans; fans whose commitment to the band was far greater than anything that could be commanded by bands with broader yet thinner support bases.
Radio Birdman opened the door for a whole new scene by showing bands that they could take control of things and arrange gigs and records on their own terms.

In 1959 he was transferred to the Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri, and there on November 21, 1963, he was found dead from natural causes by convicted spy, close friend, and fellow inmate Morton Sobell.

'Birdman' is set in London, and opens with the discovery of the corpses of five women, each surgically modified, made up, and provided with an 'artificial' heart.
'Birdman' reads quickly, even at its 400 or so pages, but when you add up all the plot devices that you have seen before and its, in my opinion, pretty cheap switcheroo false ending about three-quarters of the way through, you get a book that, while it has potential, just isn't that great.
I read Birdman in a day, and enjoyed it enough - first time warts and all - to warrant going back and reading her other books; catching up on what I've missed.

Robert Franklin Stroud (January 28, 1890—November 21, 1963), known as the Birdman of Alcatraz, was a prisoner in Alcatraz who supposedly found solace from segregation in raising and selling birds.

Some have challenged the claim that Stroud's transfer to Alcatraz was due to some of the equipment he requested being used to make alcoholic beverages (which was depicted in the film though not shown as the reason for his transfer).
