Birds of Prey (TV series) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Birds of Prey was a live action American television series produced in 2002.
The Huntress's origin is derived from the original version of the character, not the version appearing in the Birds of Prey comic book: she is Helena Kyle, the daughter of Batman and Catwoman, who (in the television series) was raised by her mother without her father ever knowing that she existed.
A major difference between the television version of Huntress and the comic book original is that the TV character possessed a few cat-like superpowers inherited from her mother, who, in the TV series continuity, also had superpowers (in the comics she does not).

 Dude, Birds Of Prey Sucks!
First some backstory: Birds of Prey is a new show on the WB based on the DC Comic book of the same name.
In the comic, the titular "birds" are Dinah Lance, AKA the "Black Canary" an athletic superheroine with a "sonic scream" power and an old flame of Green Arrow (for you Marvel fans, think Hawkeye and Mockingbird), and Barbara Gordon, daughter of Batman's ally commisioner Gordon and formerly Batgirl before the Joker shot and paralyzed her.
The comic occurs in the DC "present," or concurrently with Batman, Superman and the rest of the tights-and-cape set.

The precise definition of comics remains a subject of debate, with some scholars insisting that their printed nature is crucial to the definition, or that they should be defined by the interdependence of image and text.
The term "comics" likely originated in early 20th century comic strips, which were originally a venue for serial and gag humor (i.e., the name came from comedy).
A radical break with the traditional comic genres occurred in the late 1960s with the advent of satirical, psychedelic, and sexually explicit underground comics.

Birds Of Prey #83 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Since I'm a rather jaded comic reader who has seen the "tune in next issue to see if our brave hero is able to survive their certain death" trick played literally thousands of times, I'm always eager to praise a writer who is able to get past my well established defences.
In fact, the transition was so quick that I initially suspected the sudden co-operation was a trick designed to lull our heroes into a false sense of security, but this idea was quickly quashed when the drug kingpin cuts his ties with the criminal organization that the Huntress is currently dismantling.
The art also nicely presents the facial expressions of the characters, from Zinda's panicked expression as she calls Dinah about Barbara, to Ted's almost comical expression as he notices the two pounds of cocaine under the driver seat as they near the checkpoint.

The Birds of Prey comic book series features the original Batgirl, now a wheelchair bound uber-hacker named Oracle who guides street level operatives, namely the Black Canary and, more irregularly, the Huntress.
I mention this because even a poorly rated TV series probably had a larger audience than most comics, and the comic might still benefit from a crossover audience.
The Birds of Prey comic has been a generally well regarded effort if you're looking for breezy, two-fisted action tales, often with foes that are crooks and gangsters rather than "super" villains, and with some emphasis on the buddy bonding between the heroines.

Birds Of Prey: Series Premiere "Pilot" Review
Based on the DC Comic, “Birds Of Prey” opens with a narration by Alfred Pennyworth (Ian Abercrombie) on the night where one of the biggest crackdowns on crime in the history of New Gotham City dismantles the Joker’s crime organization.
The series a slightly self referential with a dialogue nod to Marvel Comic’s “Spider-Man” not unlike the “Superman” nod heard in the Sam Raimi feature film of this past summer and there appears to even be a subtle nod to “Smallville” with mention of “comets” or whatnot having fallen to Earth lately.
Overall, the series premiere of “Birds Of Prey” shows some of the best promise for any of the new fall television series I have screened that have premiered this fall.
