Davis); another in the southwest corner of town called the Birdsall M. church, erected in 1872; the third, St. Joseph's Catholic church, is in the eastern part of the town.
The town of Birdsall was formed Mar. 2, 1830, at the house of James Matthews, pursuant to an act passed by the legislature May 4, 1829.
James McWaver born in Almond in February, '28, came to Birdsall in '48, married Amanda Stedrnan August, '53, enlisted October, '64, and was wounded at the battle of Gravelly Run.

When Greater New York was formed in 1898, jurisdiction over the city's bridges was transferred from the parks department to the newly created Department of Bridges.
By 1900, the New York City Board of Estimate recommended that an "enlarged structure" be constructed, and that approaches "of suitable width" be built.
While construction of the new bridge was underway, the New York City Department of Public Works diverted traffic to a temporary span adjacent to the old bridge.

The Dutch of New Netherland, after the succession of the English in 1664, began to adopt family surnames, generally taking the name of the place from which they or their parents emigrated in Holland, using the prefix "Van," which is Dutch for of or from.
This is a very old family of Southern New York and was founded by Abraham and Jean Hasbrouck, brothers, who were among the original patentees of New Paltz, Ulster County.

This engine is currently in the collection of the New York State Museum in Albany, N.Y. 10 HP Birdsall traction engine at the Mount Washington (New Hampshire) cog railway base station.
What Birdsall called their "patent" steering apparatus consisted of a worm and sector on the left front wheel spindle and a tie rod running to a spindle arm on the right wheel.
The Birdsall boiler was designed to carry water above the level of the barrel, but the downfall of the Birdsall was the use of thin boiler material.

A steel / precast system which incorporates prefabricated grids and micro silica concrete is being used for redecking the Thousand Island Suspension Bridge at Wellesley Island in New York State.
Each panel features three continuous blockouts locarted over new steel sleepers that will be installed in the bridge.
Installation of the panels is scheduled to start at the end of May. Work to remove the existing deck and install the new panels will be done at night in order to maintain traffic during the day.
