Australia even developed a steam car, but is most well known for its development of a General Motors hybrid "Holden" The central display features cars that have been improtant to the development of the Australian car industry.
It has a great collection of cars relating to Australia's history, including those early attempts at an "Australian Car" Holdens and Falcons feature, but one car that was to challenge those two marques Monaro and GT models never got into full production.
Unfortunately Leyland Australia closed down, and around only 10 were built.

BIRDWOOD, WILLIAM RIDDELL (1865-1951), 1st BARON BIRDWOOD OF ANZAC AND TOTNES, field marshal, was born on 13 September 1865 at Kirkee, India, second son of Herbert Mills Birdwood, under-secretary to the government of Bombay, and Edith Marion, daughter of Surgeon Major E. Impey of the Bombay Horse Artillery.
Birdwood was educated at Clifton College, Bristol, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, England, from which he was commissioned early owing to the Russian war scare of 1885.
Birdwood brought an Australian expert in personnel matters to his headquarters and in September chose Colonel (Sir) Brudenell White from 1st Division Headquarters as chief of staff.

Adolph von Treuer, born in 1822 in Wartzburg, Bavaria and educated at the University of Dorpat, came to Australia in 1855.
