		The grittiness of the movie while it may be a bit irritating, gives this movie a strangely opaque feel and some of the scenes which are throughout this film are absolutely moving and will tug at your heartstrings.
		While the movie is enjoyable for its special effects and awesome action sequences, I for one agree with many that this was almost not even necessary to be made like this especially since the 1992 third entry was where it should've ended.
		This movie sometimes makes me angry not because it is bad because it is a really great movie but it's the whole concept of high-ranking government officials actually being a part of the problem than as the people trying to fight the criminals committing these crimes.

		Birdy seems to get the song "Wallflower" as his theme (which I think is rather appropriate, given the lyrics of the original) while Al, more or less, gets an instrumental of "Family Snapshot" in his vulnerable and emotional moments.

		The film is an adaptation of William Wharton's wonderful 1978 novel of an unlikely friendship torn apart by war and reconstructed within the confines of a military psychiatric hospital.
		Critical posturing dictates that the book must be much better than the movie, but in this case both communicate the same sense of harmless nuttiness juxtaposed against a much darker insanity with thoughtfulness and sensitivity (although the film does cop out with a much easier and slightly tackier ending).
		Birdy is in fact a modestly cohesive achievement.

		The music for “Birdy” is a collection of songs that include interpretations of past Gabriel songs, as well as new melodies and compositions that are inspired by the mood of the film.
		According to Gabriel in the liner notes, some of the tunes on the record never made the final cut in the film but they represent both “Birdy’s” themes and the album as a collection of songs that have their own creative life beyond the scope of the film.
		While “Birdy” might not have caught your attention in the theaters back in 1985 (who could pry themselves away from “Miami Vice” anyway?), this record is certainly worth your attention if you are a Peter Gabriel fan and/or in need of a fantastically compelling, atmospheric record.
