He indicated that at the time of the original consultation it had been emphasised that the scheme was a draft scheme and that there were no guarantees that the full scheme could be implemented and a letter to this effect had been sent to the Tenants Association.
Councillor Bryan Lodge referred to the fact that the junction of Occupation Lane and Birley Spa Lane had been included in the original scheme in the form of road narrowing measures so as to address a number of concerns including the fact that schoolchildren crossed at this junction.
The speed of traffic on Birley Spa Lane was as a direct consequence of the nature of the junction with Occupation Lane and the rational solution appeared therefore to limit the speed at this junction but this measure appeared not to be included in this scheme.

The purpose of the project was to develop literacy materials and resources which could be borrowed from nursery and used within the home in order to promote children's literacy development.
This project, therefore, arose out of the desire to identify what the literacy practices of a particular group of children were and then use that information to develop a programme, aimed at promoting parental involvement in literacy, which drew from families' 'cultural capital' (Bourdieu, 1977).
The parents and carers of all 78 children who attended Birley Spa nursery were asked to complete a literacy diary for 1 month, which documented children's reading practices in the home.

This home fixture against Birley Spa was about as enthralling an encounter as you could imagine – a pulsating first match saw the Somersall boys edge into the lead, courtesy of a somewhat fortunate own goal from the Birley Spa centre back.
Sadly, just before full time, the Birley Spa side somehow managed to squeeze a shot from the left through a packed penalty area and just inside the near post, despite a superb dive from keeper Joe Whittaker.
Recent training sessions lead by Neil Sedgwick have concentrated on shooting skills and this really shone through during a frantic last 10 minutes when shots rained in on the Birley Spa goal.
