At 11,000 sqm, and occupying a 26-acre site, Bullring is not only one of the largest retail developments to have been delivered in Europe for over a decade with 146 units, it is also the first time a scheme of this scale has been built in a city centre.

As part of the Bullring development, the developer agreed to restore the statue and railings, but in 2003 when the Bullring opened, there was no sign of the railings.
The Birmingham Civic Society mounted a campaign to get the railings re-instated, whilst Bullring argued they were a health and safety risk and would destroy the openness of the public space.

 Selfridges in Birmingham
For almost 90 years, Selfridges was a one-location business, but in 1998 it opened its first store outside London, at Trafford Park, Manchester.
By the end of 2003, Selfridges had four stores: two in Manchester and (the latest) one in Birmingham's Bullring shopping complex which opened in September 2003.
The Birmingham store is covered in 15,000 spun aluminium discs and was designed by architects Future Systems.

Shoppers in Birmingham can now mix work with pleasure by browsing the net or checking their emails while they engage in retail therapy thanks to a new wireless network that has been installed in the city's Bullring shopping centre.
Bullring's wireless hotspot service is being provided by Wi-Fi network specialist The Cloud, which embarked on a two-year mission late last year to deliver wireless connectivity to more than 30 cities in Europe.
