 Moor Street Station for Bullring Birmingham - Tyseley Locomotive Works & Vintage Trains restoration assistance
The original GWR Moor Street station (which was built by the GWR and opened in 1908) survived the closures of the 1960's and 1970's and was retained solely for the commuter service to Stratford-upon-Avon.
However this meant that the original Moor Street terminal station was redundant and a new modern station was built alongside the original on the former non-stop lines (at the south end of the tunnel).
The original Moor Street station became derelict over the years, and commuters using the new through platforms could be forgiven for wondering why this growing eyesore was left as it was.

It was never intended to be the main station but political gaming between the railway companies prevented the railway reaching its original intended end at Birmingham Curzon Street.
Moor Street, at the southern end of Snow Hill tunnel was relocated from its former terminus location, which then closed, to become a through station adjacent to the tunnel mouth.

Birmingham's skilled workforce, and the fact that Birmingham was located near the coalfields of northern Warwickshire and Staffordshire, meant that the town grew rapidly during the Industrial revolution.
Birmingham was recorded as a minor village in the Domesday Book (1086) which stated that there was land for six ploughs, but only three plough teams were used, there were the families of five villiens and four borders; woodland half a league by two furlongs, had no mill nor meadow.

 Moor Street Station
Moor Street station is one of only a handful of the region's stations to be completely rennovated (as opposed to rebuilt) and reopened as part of the national rail network.
Originally opened in 1909, the fomer Great Western station was built as a terminus for the North Warwickshire lines to alleviate pressure on Snow Hill station - the station is at the other end of a tunnel directly connecting the two stations - and for goods traffic for which a goods depot was built.
The closure of the old station came in 1987 with the opening of a new 'version' comprising of two platforms on the lines that directly entered the tunnel to Snow Hill which reopened that year and a new entrance.

You might manage street parking a short walk away, but a lift is unlikely even after the renovations because of the tight access at road level, and Wharfdale Road itself is somewhat difficult, with only a tiny drop-off point in front of the station entrance.
Although the station offers a limited amount of parking (with 3 disabled spaces), it was cram- packed on our visit, and because Warwick is a touristy historic town built with narrow pre-car streets, parking generally is both difficult and expensive.
Solihull station is at a prime focus of local transport, with a whole pack of bus routes calling near the station door.

New Street is Birmingham's most important station for both local and national services, with the other city centre rail stations being Moor Street and Snow Hill.
Note the Broad Street area, which is the main pub and club quarter for the city, is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the station (it is much quicker to leave via the Victoria Square exit (if you can see escalators, you've gone the wrong way).
