The Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) is one of the UK's foremost ballet companies, based at the Birmingham Hippodrome theatre in Birmingham, where it enjoys custom-buit facilities such as the Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries and the Patrick Centre, a studio theatre.
It is known as the Vic-Wells Ballet as it performs both at Sadler's Wells Theatre and the Old Vic Theatre in London.
The Sadler's Wells Ballet becomes The Royal Ballet and Sadler's Wells Theatre Ballet becomes the Touring Company of The Royal Ballet.

At the end of BRB's performance on Tuesday, one pigeon was clearly siding with the sceptics.
Nao Sakuma as the Young Girl struggling to retain her boyfriend's heart might have begun by pitching her role on the wrong side of pert, but she's a natural Ashton dancer and as she makes her crude, frightened attempts to ape the seductive moves of her Gypsy Girl rival, her performance deepens detail by detail.
BRB's women, despite being dressed in Karinska's ravishing costumes, are the least successful element in this - Asta Bazeviciute apart, their legs and feet just don't strike sparks from the air.

Dance Magazine: Birmingham Royal Ballet. - Brief Article - Review - dance review
BIRMINGHAM ROYAL BALLET BIRMINGHAM HIPPODROME BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, U.K. The photo in Birmingham Royal Ballet's program of the symbolic hand rising out of the lake, grasping not the legendary sword, but a Kalashnikov, immediately alerted balletgoers that this tale of King Arthur was not from the Lerner and Loewe sunny Camelot mold.
When the ballet started, it was not a medieval court that appeared but a bunch of bundled refugees, burdened with suitcases and bags, who climbed over rubble and between scaffolding to escape the searchlights and the enemy.
Bintley has chosen not to set his new ballet in the fifth century, since he links the extensive carnage and pillage of those medieval days with the two horrific world wars at the beginning of the last century, and the senseless slaughter and struggle for power and land that still goes on today.

Ballet-Dance Magazine - Interview - Lee Fisher - Birmingham Royal Ballet, Freefall
You were part of a groundbreaking initiative that started in 1997 when a group of dancers from the Birmingham Royal Ballet joined the University of Birmingham in order to complete degree programmes in Dance in Education.
It allowed ballet and my experience in the art form to be my secure base to work from and it has shown me, that with a little creativity and sensitive application ballet can be truly accessible.
Ballet, basically, is very simple; it has that framework if you like, and I don’t think we compromise that at the company, we do it as it is; we do a ballet class.

The Birmingham Royal Ballet is celebrating the Ashton centenary earlier than Covent Garden and last weekend they performed a beautifully balanced double bill.
I recommend seeing this ballet from above to fully appreciate the sculptural qualities of the tableaux and the beautiful final moments when the dancers lie down on the stage to form a giant curling serpent, reflecting the coils on the arms and torsos of the Children of Darkness.
This ballet always “works”: it doesn’t matter much who is dancing or how well they are dancing (rather well, actually), the choreography is the star.

The Birmingham audience are fabulous, if noisy at times, and for those tired of the poshness of London and the Royal Opera House a trip to Birmingham is a real tonic.

The most astonishing part is the force of the narrative, a force so captivating that it had the primly dressed people around me clapping like crazy and literally booing at the barons during the curtain call.
For a born storyteller like Bintley, and especially for one coming from this tradition, the answer is simple: because it's a ripping good tale, and because ballet is potent.
Wolfgang Stollwitzer (formerly of John Cranko's Stuttgart Ballet, he created the role of Edward II) and Robert Parker (as Gaveston) weren't going out of their way to emote - they didn't need to (although, throughout, both men could have been more deeply engaged with John McCabe's roiling music, conducted by Barry Wordsworth).

All three works are now being performed in one programme - which would probably be too much jazz for one night were it not for the superb theatricality of Towns' score.
While there are lots of classic jazz moves in Orpheus (Iain Mackay as the hero does a particularly joyous jitterbug) Bintley can also explore more expressionist terrain, like the sullen broken-doll dance for the denizens of Hades.
Given the collaborative spark of some sections it is disappointing that music and choreography fail each other in the most critical parts of the ballet - the Orpheus and Eurydice duets.
