Birmingham 6 is also a Danish industrial music band, named after the Birmingham Six.
The Birmingham bombings were attributed to the Provisional IRA, although the group denied this two days later (they eventually conceded that they were responsible).
The devices were placed in two central Birmingham pubs: the Mulberry Bush (later renamed, then redeveloped in 2003 as a tourist information office), at the foot of the Rotunda, and the Tavern in the Town, a basement pub on New Street (later renamed the Yard of Ale).

At 20:14 a man with an Irish accent telephoned a Birmingham newspaper and said that there was a bomb in the 17 story Rotunda office block housing the Mulberry Bush pub.
Six innocent people, the Birmingham Six, were accused of carrying out the attack, convicted and spent years in jail before they had their convictions overturned.

Birmingham 6 is a Danish Industrial/EBM group founded in 1991 and named after the Birmingham Six, a group of Irish men mistakenly imprisoned for the Birmingham pub bombings.
While the search was in progress the police were informed of the Birmingham bombings, the men agreed to be taken to Morecambe police station for forensic tests.
At the prison the six man claimed they were subject to further ill-treatment, when they reappeared in court on the 28th all the men showed visible bruising and other signs of violence.

According to the prosecution the bombs in Birmingham which killed 21 people were the culmination of a bombing campaign in Birmingham carried out by an IRA unit; it was asserted that James McDade was a member of that unit and the bombs were in revenge for his death.
On 30th March, 1976, the six men convicted of the pub bombings were refused leave by the Court of Appeal in London to challenge their convictions.

Paddy Hill, one of the Birmingham Six wrongly convicted of the 1974 IRA pub bombing, has angrily rejected a compensation offer of less than £1 million for the 16 years he spent in jail.
A former Conservative MP apologised to the Birmingham Six at the High Court in London yesterday after claiming in an interview that they were guilty, even though they had been cleared by the Court of Appeal.
Benedict Birnberg, a solicitor representing the six, told Mr Justice Popplewell that, during an interview at the school, Mr Evans "expressed the view that the plaintiffs were guilty of the Birmingham pub bombings".

If the six men win it, it will mean that the police were guilty of perjury, violence and threats, that the confessions were involuntary and were improperly admitted and that the convictions were erroneous.

Six Labour councillors from Birmingham are to face trial for election fraud this coming Monday (21st) despite the fact that Labour Party Solicitors Steel and Shamash have parted company with their clients.
The Lib-Dems will ask that trial judge Richard Mawrey QC to declare the six councillors improperly elected, believing the evidence to be so strong that he should declare the three losing Lib-Dem candidates victors of the 2004 election.
All six councillors deny the allegations amidst a Labour Party spokeswoman stating: “What has become clear in recent court proceedings is that the behaviour of some activists from our own party, and other parties, in these two wards has fallen short of the high standards that the electors have the right to expect.”

Throughout the afternoon the six were forced to stand to attention in their cells, with the blood and water dripping down their naked bodies.
One can only speculate whether the intention was to deprive the six of an additional opportunity to reiterate publicly both their own innocence and the flagrant abuse they had received at the hands of the police.

A massive security operation is expected to be launched in Birmingham tomorrow, when the six accused men will appear in a hearing at the Victoria law courts.
The so-called Birmingham Six were found guilty in August 1975 of carrying out the bombings and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Three detectives were charged with perjury and conspiracy in connection with the investigation, but their trial was halted in 1993 on the grounds of prejudicial media coverage.
