		In comparison, in 1946 Waffen-SS General Sepp Dietrich and SS Colonel Joachim Peiper were found guilty of war crimes at the Malmedy Massacre Trial by the Dachau International Military Tribunal, and both received long prison sentences for their parts in the Malmedy massacre of American soldiers, which took place during the Battle of the Bulge.

		Interestingly, I think he is making reference to the massacre of prisoners at Biscari which almost got him sent back to the states.
		It seems that Patton gave no order to massacre any prisoners but that some troops took a liberal interpretation of one his butch pep talks.
		Very interesting lets swop war stories,I served in the Wormington-On-Sea Home Guard and once shot a seagull.I think killing prisoners is a big deal,and no,not everyone did do it.

		In fairness to Hirshon, it appears that his discussion about war crimes in Sicily is based on James Weingartner, "Massacre at Biscari: Patton and An American War Crime," The Historian LII, no. 1, (November 1989), 24-39.
		But all of Hanson's criticisms of the argument still apply.
