BISCEGLIE was contacted on Friday, January 26, 1996, at his office by an acquaintance whom he declined to identify.
The source told BISCEGLIE that he suspected his brother may be the UNABOM subject in the Spring or Summer of 1995, after the last UNABOM explosion occurred in California and a profile of the UNABOM subject was publicized.
The source told BISCEGLIE that his brother was hospitalized as a child for a serious illness, and that this hospitalization period may have contributed to his brother's depression as a child.

U.S. Seeking Death Penalty for Unabom Suspect
Bisceglie called the decision "a terrible mistake" and said Kaczynski's brother and mother were devastated on learning the news and were in seclusion.
Bisceglie said he and David Kaczynski had a long meeting in January with the death penalty review committee of the Justice Department and asked that the defendant's life be spared.
An execution, Bisceglie said, would mean an emotional death of sorts for the younger brother, who recently quit his job as assistant director of a youth shelter in Schenectady, N.Y., to aid in his brother's defense.

CNN - "Our hearts are with Ted" - April 8, 1996
Bisceglie said it has been six years since any family member has seen Theodore Kaczynski, who was arrested last Wednesday at his Montana mountain cabin.
Bisceglie said neither he nor David Kaczynski was aware of a $1 million reward when they contacted the FBI.
The family, said Bisceglie, knew that Kaczynski was living the life of a loner in a remote location.

 Kaczynski's brother had `nagging feeling'
Bisceglie said that David Kaczynski and his wife, Linda Patrick, began last summer to notice that locations of Unabomber mail bombings sometimes coincided with Ted Kaczynski's whereabouts.
Bisceglie said David Kaczynski then took a series of steps that brought his concerns to the attention of law-enforcement authorities, who soon concluded that his brother was a suspect in the 18-year run of mail bombings that killed three and injured 23.
Bisceglie denied that one of the family's conditions for going to the FBI was a promise that the government would not seek the death penalty.

Kaczynski's family began own probe   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Bisceglie also strongly denied reports that he and the Kaczynski family, in exchange for information the family's investigation dug up, had asked federal officials to waive the death penalty if Theodore Kaczynski were convicted.
Bisceglie said he had no information that Theodore Kaczynski had any friends or associates in Sacramento, the site of the last Unabomber explosion almost a year ago.
While Bisceglie described the Kaczynski family as close-knit, the relationship apparently did not extend to Theodore Kaczynski, who dropped out of sight and regular contact with his family after giving up a teaching job at the University of California, Berkeley.
