  Techno-Z Bischofshofen
Bischofshofen is often described as the cradle of the Pongau.
Bischofshofen has developed into a central economic location and cultural centre in the last 100 years.
This positive development was decisive for the market community of Bischofshofen being raised to the status of a town in 2000.

Bischofshofen again connected us to the expressway (pictures 3,4) to Salzburg, Linz, Melk, onward to Zeining, home that is. The Hochkönig Mountain is the principal mountain in the Hochkönigstock (a glacier mesa really) and is summiting at a high of 2943 m above sea level.
Greater Bischofshofen marked the end of our trip through the Austrian Alps since it was near here where we went onto the expressway for a straight drive home to Zeining (via Salzburg, Linz, Melk).

BISCHOFSHOFEN, Austria (AP) - The final of the 52nd Four Hills ski jumping tour will take place on a modified state-of-the-art jump, Bischofshofen officials announced Monday.
The Paul-Ausserleitner jump in the village of Bischofshofen near Salzburg was modified for 3.5 million euros ($5.4 million Cdn) and now has a flatter landing zone as well as a further distanced critical point of 125 metres.
In a second step, the jump will be adapted for summer use with a plastic layer in 2004 and become the largest jumping hill of its kind in the world.

Hannawald landed the fourth trophy in Bischofshofen, Austria, shattering his personal record with a jump of 139 meters and an outstanding 131.5 meters on his second jump.
The Four Hills Tournament was begun 50 years ago by German and Austrian athletes shut out of international competitions after the second world war.
Schmitt, a darling of the German media at the start of the season, praised Hannawald, saying he "jumps in a league of his own." Hannawald and Schmitt will represent Germany in the ski-jumping competitions at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City next month.

BISCHOFSHOFEN, Austria (Jan. 6) -- As the Springertournee, the so-called Four Hills Tournament, concluded its 50th season, Germany's Sven Hannawald made ski jumping history Sunday as he became the first athlete to win all four events in one season.
He went 125.5 on his first jump and had 256.2 points for the best U.S. showing in the Springertournee since Mike Holland won in Bischofshofen in 1989.
Ylianttila also said the jumps in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen are similar in style to the Olympic jumps at Utah Olympic Park.

Despite an uncharacteristic fourth-place performance in Bischofshofen's qualifying round on Wednesday, Finn Janne Ahonen is sitting pretty for a Four Hills clean sweep on Thursday.
The Finn's season speaks for itself: Ahonen is 10 for 11 on the current World Cup circuit and he brandishes an almost ridiculous 503 point lead over the Czech Republic's Jakub Janda in the overall rankings.
A win on the Bischofshofen hill Thursday and Ahonen will become only the second man in history -- after German Sven Hannawald in 2001-2002 -- to win all four of the Four Hills in the same season.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. Rupert
Upon the lofty prominences (Nonnberg) to the southeast of the town, where the old Roman fortress once towered, he established a convent of nuns which, like the monastery of the Mönchberg, he placed under the protection and Rule of St. Benedict.
Rupert thenceforth devoted himself entirely to the work of salvation and conversion which he had already begun, founding in connection therewith manny churches and monasteries—e.g., Maxglan, near Salzburg, Maximilianszelle (now Bischofshofen in Pongau), Altotting, and others.
After a life of extraordinarily successful activity, he died at Salzburg, aided by the prayers of his brethren in the order; his body reposed in the St. Peterskirche until 24 Sept., 774, when his disciple and successor, Abbot-Bishop St. Virgil, had a portion of his remains removed to the cathedral.
