Biscuit tin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because of their attractive appearance, biscuit tins have often been used by charities and by some visitor attractions as fundraising devices since the value of the biscuits in a biscuit tin is substantially less than the price that many customers will happily pay for a tin of biscuits.
Biscuit tins are remarkable for the range of designs applied to them and for their longevity in the marketplace.
Biscuit tins were commonplace in the late 19th century and continue to be sold in their thousands in the 21st century.

Although under continuing pressure from Tupperware and similar plastic containers and from the American-style ceramic 'cookie jars', the biscuit tin remains a part of our daily lives, both at home and in the workplace, but the use of attractive tins to contain biscuits can be traced back to the middle of the 19th century.
Various patents concerning printing on tin were taken out from 1853 onwards but the first successful process, using a form of transfer-printing, was adopted for biscuit tins in 1868.
The Fire Brigade tin is eagerly sought by collectors of both tins and fire-fighting memorabilia, and similar dual desir-ability holds for quite a few designs, particularly some of the novelty shapes, occasionally resulting in un-expectedly high prices at auction.

London: A decorative biscuit tin picturing a couple having sex in bushes during a formal tea party, which a mischievous artist tried to sneak onto British supermarket shelves, is to be sold at auction, it was announced.
The 1970s design was created for British biscuit manufacturers Huntley and Palmer, who were due to supply the tins to supermarket chain Tesco, according to auction firm Lawrences, based in Somerset, west England.
Biscuit tins are collected by many enthusiasts, and this surviving one -- described in the Lawrences catalogue as "the rogue employee tin" -- is expected to sell for hundreds of pounds at the auction on April 23.

We selected a biscuit and took it in turns to see whether it melted, whether it could go into a biscuit tin, if it made a noise when you bit it, if it felt good when you chewed it, if it produced crumbs and whether it was suitable to be dunked into tea.
So...after studying the results carefully, me and Joe decided that a biscuit is a biscuit as long as it doesn't have chocolate on it.
All of the biscuits that melted got a cross, so did the ones that couldn't go into a biscuit tin, as for being unable to be dunked into tea...well...that's disgraceful!
