Bisexuality - Encyclopedia, History, Geography and Biography
Bisexual orientation can fall anywhere between the two extremes of homosexuality and heterosexuality; a bisexual person is not necessarily attracted equally to both genders, and many tend to prefer one or the other.
Because many bisexual people do not feel that they fit into either the gay community or the heterosexual world, and because they have a tendency to be "invisible" in public (fitting in rather seamlessly into both homosexual and heterosexual society), some bisexual persons are committed to forming their own communities, culture, and political movements.
Another symbol is the bisexual pride flag, which has a deep pink stripe at the top for homosexuality, a blue one on the bottom for heterosexuality, and a purple one (blended from the pink and blue) in the middle to represent bisexuality.

A rainbow flag is a multi-colored flag consisting of stripes in the colors of the rainbow.
The stripes overlap in the central one-fifth of the flag to form a purple (Pantone 258) stripe representing the combination of both orientations.

Rainbow flag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Already in the German Peasants' War of the 16th century, the rainbow flag together with the peasants' boot ("Bundschuh") was used as the sign of a new era, of hope and of social change.
The rainbow flag was first used to symbolize gay pride and diversity by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker; as of 2003, it currently consists of six colored stripes of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.
There was some use of similar multi-colored flags in the USA in the early 1970s as a symbol of internationalism and unity of all people of Earth, but by the end of the 1970s the rainbow flag's connection with gay pride became generally known in the United States.

As such, pride flags are a frequent feature of gay pride parades and are also flown at businesses that wish to identify themselves as gay-owned or gay-friendly and at the homes of people who wish to proclaim their pride.
The two flags flown in the 1978 parade were produced by Baker and volunteers at the San Francisco Gay Center who dyed the fabrics for the eight stripes, each of which represented a concept.
The colors of the original flags were hot pink for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for the sun, green for nature, turquoise for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit.

The key to understanding the symbolism in the Bi Pride Flag is to know that the purple pixels of color blend unnoticeably into both the pink and blue, just as in the 'real world' where most bi people blend unnoticeably into both the gay/lesbian and straight communities.
Although the flag is often common in the gay community, it is not a "gay-only" symbol.

Saying that "bisexual" and "gay" are meaningless labels because both are deviant is kind of like saying that "running a red light" and "improper lane usage" are meaningless labels because both are traffic violations or that "red" and "blue" are meaningless labels because both are colours.
Bisexuality exists; there are people who are attracted to both genders, and claiming that it should just be called "homosexuality" because it's still perversion is gross oversimplification.
