His nephew, the 3rd Earl was a chief supporter of King Richard II and was beheaded by a mob in Salisbury during an attempt to restore the monarch to his throne.
Though Bisham Manor had been the main home of the Montacute Earls, Neville inherited vast Yorkshire estates from his mother in 1440, and his northern offices kept him much of the time at Middleham Castle.
Bisham was his Southern residence though, when not at Court in London and staying at “The Harbour” in Dowgate.

Bisham, in the picturesque Kaghan Valley, some 250 km north of the capital Islamabad, stands at the entrance to the towering, rocky Karakorums mountain range.
Rescue efforts in places like Bisham and in hundreds of communities like it dotted across northern Pakistan, are a desperate race against time — with aid workers aware that heavy snow would make their task almost impossible.

 The Hauntings of Bisham Abbey: Fact or Fiction?
Her lands were confiscated and later Bisham was given to the unfortunate Anne of Cleves, Henry VIII’s fourth wife, who swapped it, for Westhorpe in Suffolk, with Sir Philip Hoby.
She was once seen by some young boys in a boat down by the river, and some even believe she is responsible for the mists which often envelope the Abbey, drawing the most unwilling of passers-by into the depths of the Thames.
Up until 1936, Lady Hoby had apparently materialised at Bisham during every coronation since at least that of Charles I. However, latterly she appears to have missed her regular appointment even though she still haunts the building on other occasions.

Today, Bisham is probably best known for Bisham Abbey, a mainly Tudor building of Grade 1 architectural interest and now a national sports centre.
The building incorporates parts of Bisham Priory, which was founded by the Knights Templar in 1338 and had the distinction of being the only monastery to be re-established as an abbey by Henry VIII after the dissolution.
The Bisham estate passed in to the hands of the Hoby Family whose noble alabaster effigies can be seen in the riverside parish church, which, although largely rebuilt in 1849, still has its original Norman Tower.

Archaeologists are awaiting results of a geophysical survey carried out around Bisham Abbey last weekend which could reveal the long-lost history of the site.
Bisham Abbey, off the A404 Marlow Bypass, is believed to date as far back as 1337, and a special survey hopes to reveal the original foundations of the ancient building.
The modern abbey is currently the home of Sport England's National Sports Centre, and six volunteers took to the lawns of the tennis courts to try and detect the foundations.
