Bishojo game - Girl games, PC games
Bishojo game is a Japanese term, also being spelled as bishoujo game, and also called as girl game or gal game it is a kind of PC game that includes interactions with attractive anime - style girls.
Bishojo game is uniquely a Japanese cultural phenomenon; they have virtually no competitions for the game in the west in video game industries.
The degree of pornography in a game is often been estimated from its atmosphere: most mainstream games have a bright atmosphere with sunny days and cute artwork, whereas the hardcore will usually be dark and gloomy.

 Ren'ai Games
Remember, that classic-style bishoujo games, be it the text-intensive visual novels or statistics-oriented dating sims, are from the same family of art forms that are manga and anime.
These games are built to be static, and precisely because of this you will feel them being immediately connected to the world of anime and manga.
While in classic adventure games the plot is given, in bishoujo games (save for a few purely visual novels), you will have choices to make and outcomes of the game will be different.

Review of the game True Love
Games such as Sierra's _Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers_ and _Quest for Glory IV_ had character portraits that were much more colorful and visually striking.
Bishoujo games live and die by their character art, and here I find _True Love_ to be rather lacking.
Also, while progressing through the game is a lot of fun and each girl has her own interesting plot (compare to the very two-dimensional girls of _Casual Romance Club_), the endings are very short and a bit of a letdown.

So What Is A Bishoujo Game, Exactly?
The difference between a bishoujo movie, manga, or slideshow and a bishoujo game is that YOU control the story/action, and very often have the choice of where you go, what you do, and which girls to pursue.
Most bishoujo games are rated by the ESRB, and their packaging is perfectly appropriate for being put on a shelf.
The bishoujo gaming industry is small right now, and it needs all the sales it can get to show the big Japanese companies that initially make these games that it is worth their while to sell us the rights to translate the games.

Lemma Soft Forums :: View topic - What's the difference between bishoujo, ren'ai, and dating?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-03)
Dating simulations - are games where the ordering is not pre-determined, but instead is determined by the game itself at runtime, based on some set of conditions that can only be known when the game is played.
As for "ren'ai game," it's a useful term in technical discussions like this, distinguishing between Tokimemo and visual novels, but it's a rather bizarre thing to encounter as it is never used outside the American visual novel doujin community.
This said I really believe the new JAST site's category name "dating sim games" is plain wrong, but as you said, there are many people using this term and it may give them more hits from their teen target groups googling around.
