 Saint John
A church was built soon afterwards, and at the suggestion of Bishop Plessis it was dedicated to St. Malachy: it was opened for worship on 1 Oct., 1815.
The first resident priest of St. John was Rev. Joseph Morrisset; he was succeeded by Rev. Patrick McMahon, and in 1828 Rev. John Carroll, the last priest prior to the establishment of a diocese in the Maritime Provinces, was sent from Quebec.
John Sweeny had emigrated with his parents in 1828; his classical studies were made at St. Andrew's College, near Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, after which he went to Quebec for theology.

John Connolly, second Bishop of New York, 6 Feb., 1825, Father Dubois was chosen his successor and consecrated the third Bishop of New York by Archbishop Maréchal in Baltimore, 29 Oct., 1826.
Enfeebled by age and hard work, he asked for a coadjutor, the diocese having grown to include 38 churches, 12 stations, and 40 priests, and the Rev. John Hughes of Philadelphia was appointed titular Bishop of Basilinopolis and coadjutor of New York in 1837.
Bishop Dubois's infirmities increasing, Bishop Hughes was made administrator in 1839, and the old bishop passed the last days of a life of apostolic zeal in retirement.

Robert V. Connolly, 80, of La Crosse died on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center in La Crosse.
He was ordained for the Diocese of La Crosse, Sept. 29, 1945, at St. John's Cathedral in Milwaukee, Wis., by Archbishop Kiley, D.D. His first solemn Mass was on Oct. 4, 1945, in Darlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James, Hugh Francis and Joseph Connolly; a sister in infancy; and his sister-in-law, Ethel Connolly.
