Bishop Kearney's first principal was the late Joseph M. Clark, FSCH, of the Congregation of Christian Brothers of Ireland.
The intertwined J and M stand for Jesus and Mary, from the symbol of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
It is one of the few high school facilities to have hosted a major league sports team, having been the home field of the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse from 2003 to 2005, prior to the Rattlers move to PAETEC Park for the 2006 season.

Bishop Kearney High School's Annual Commencement Exercises for the class of 2005 were held on Saturday, June 4th at 10AM in the Walt Whitman Auditorium of Brooklyn College.
Kearney’s uniform consists of a kilt skirt or uniform pants, white knit golf shirt with Kearney monogram, v-neck sweater and fl opaque tights.

The Bishop Kearney Varsity Tigers traveled to the nation's capital the weekend of Oct 5-6 to participate in the Model National Invitational Tournament that is hosted in the heart of Washington DC.
Bishop Kearney from Brooklyn, traveled by bus with the full support of their school's administration and was the only team from New York in the tournament.
The volleyball program at Kearney was directly affected by the tragedy as one of the junior varsity players lost their father, Captain Timmy Stackpole, a firefighter who lost his life saving other peoples' lives at the World Trade Center.

The Congressional High School Arts Competition is held every year in districts across the country, and is designed to celebrate the achievements of young artists.
As the winner of the competition, Dana’s work, a framed oil on canvas painting, will be included in a national exhibit to be displayed in a concourse running between the Cannon House Office Building and the United States Capitol.
Dana, who graduated from Bishop Kearney on Saturday, will also receive a trip to Washington D.C. for the grand opening of the exhibit, and a scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Technology summer high school program, in Manhattan.
