MAUNDY Thursday has been chosen by the Bishop of Ripon and Leeds, John Packer, as a special day of prayer and vigils for peace in Iraq in churches across his diocese.
In a pastoral letter to 144 Church of England clergy the bishop asked for churches to be opened throughout Holy Week so that people could use them for silent reflection, to light a candle for Iraq or to pray for peace.
