  Westminster Abbey
Westminster Abbey is designated a "Royal peculiar", its officials are appointed by the Crown, and the abbey itself is extra-diocesan, that is, exempt from the jurisdiction of the Bishop of London in whose diocese it was situated.
The right of sanctuary was enjoyed by Westminster from Norman times, and even after the Reformation it lingered on in a modified form until finally abolished by King James I. The greater part of the old monastic buildings are now used as a public school.
The scholars of Westminster still have certain rights and privileges within the abbey itself, such as greeting the sovereign with acclamation, on behalf of the English people, at the moment of his coronation.

 Bishop Flynn
Bishop Flynn was the eldest of six children and his father was a regular soldier.
Bishop Flynn soon developed a great pride in his diocese and years later in his Jubilee speech he was to quote St. John Fisher 'I am not going to swop my old woman for the richest widow in England.' His sense of obedience was such that he would have gone wherever the Pope sent him.
When the Bishop explained he was going to preach, the young man added he really meant 'a distinguished preacher.' The celebrations continued with a special Mass at Thistleton Lodge for centenary of the restoration of the hierarchy and the centenary of John Lingard's death.

Bishop McCall said that he was ‘most disturbed’ to learn of the decision of the Synod and Bishop of the Diocese of New Westminster in Canada to approve Services for the blessing of same-sex unions.
Yet Bishop Weatherill also said the call for alternative episcopal oversight by the 19 Australian bishops was ‘unnecessarily provocative and may in fact, harden already entrenched positions on both sides of the New Westminster divide’.

At one stage Bishop Ingham offered to provide another bishop to the parishes as a chaplain but this concession was slight: it could be withdrawn at any time at the Bishop’s pleasure, and Bishop Ingham would not delegate any authority at all to this proposed visitor, and no control over the selection of clergy.
Moreover Bishop Ingham has previously voted for an arrangement by which he is presently in full communion with the Bishop of the BC Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada who exercises Episcopal oversight of parishes in Bishop Ingham’s diocese—and this without any coordinating canonical structure whatsoever.
Bishop Ingham writes that he is now bound by “the ancient tradition of the Church” but in the past he has shown himself capable of a decidedly creative relation to the tradition.

New Westminster synod and bishop approve same-sex blessings -- Members of nine parishes walk out in protest
Walters called the vote schismatic, "a tragic moment in history", and described New Westminster as a "rebel diocese." Outside synod moments later, he said the nine parishes that walked out and "members of at least six other parishes" are in touch with primates of Anglican provinces worldwide and will decide their future soon.
While the Primate said he believed the bishop and the diocese had acted responsibly in reaching a decision on same-sex blessings, he fully expected the matter would be on the agenda of the next meeting of the Canadian House of Bishops and quite possibly at the meeting of General Synod in 2004.
Bishop Ingham, however, assured synod that the bishops in U.S. dioceses which have allowed same-sex blessings -- many of them for years -- have continued to receive invitations from the Archbishop of Canterbury to the Lambeth meeting of bishops every 10.

In separate moves, Bishop Michael Ingham made efforts to assert his authority as diocesan bishop and stave off the arrival of an outside, or 'flying bishop,' to minister to eight unhappy parishes.

VirtueOnline - News - VANCOUVER: New Westminster Bishop Faces Triple Crisis
VANCOUVER, BC-- The revisionist Bishop of New Westminster, Michael Ingham, faces a triple crisis that could derail his plans to depose, at the minimum put on hold, his desire to toss 11 biblically orthodox priests out of their parishes and seize their properties.
The second crisis the bishop faces is that four parishes have now obtained Temporary Adequate Episcopal Oversight from four international Anglican primates with immediate oversight of the Canadian parishes by a US-based AMiA bishop.
But those close to Ingham say he will never accept a recommendation from the Canadian House of Bishops to grant alternative oversight, because basically he believes he is the bishop and that is the end of the story.
