Bishopbriggs is an affluent commuter suburb in the northern outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland.
Bishopbriggs was first documented in Cadder Parish records of 1655, and according to one historian only had eleven residents in the mid-1700s.
Bishopbriggs’ train station, opened in 1842, underlined its status as the emerging focus of the parish although its expansion was slow throughout the latter half of the nineteenth century, however the Carron Company (an iron and mining concern), was the district’s main employer, building the hamlets of Mavis Valley and Jellyhill to accommodate its workers.

In 1837, Robert Hutchison retired from the printing business, now working from Bishopbriggs and known at that date as George Brookman and Co, and a new printing business was established under the name W G Blackie and Co. Walter Graham Blackie (1816-1906) was the second son of John Blackie, senior.
During the second world war, Blackie and Son Ltd used 1/3 of their Bishopbriggs works space for the manufacture of 25 pound shells for the Ministry of Supply.

The name of the website www.fewerreasons.org.uk is intended to remind Morrisons that getting rid of Post Offices to make room for more 'fresh produce' is at odds with their own marketing message of "more reasons to shop at Morrisons".
Judging by the responses to my petition, for many people in Bishopbriggs the Post Office is one of the main reasons to shop at Morrisons.

About Bishopbriggs Golf Club: In 1906 a group of golf enthusiasts consisting of mainly railway workers on the Northside of Glasgow leased 54 Hectares of land in the Kenmure area of Bishopbriggs, a large part of which is adjacent to the Forth & Clyde Canal.
They commissioned the renowned golf course architect James Braid in October of that year to design a number of the 9 holes of a parkland course to be built and the golf course was opened in 1907.
Just in case the golf course was not successful they could then recoup their investment by selling the "house" or even make a tidy profit.
