He is said to have then entered the Cistercian monastery at Gloucester but in 1538 a John Hooper appears among the names of the Black friars at Gloucester and also among the White friars at Bristol who surrendered their houses to the king.
On the other hand, at his deprivation he was not accused, like the other married bishops who had been monks or friars, of infidelity to the vow of chastity; and his own letters to Bullinger are curiously reticent on this part of his history.
Hooper was the first of the bishops to suffer because his Zwinglian views placed him further beyond the pale than Cranmer, Ridley and Latimer.

 Bishop's Cleeve, a brief history.
Bishop's Cleeve appears to have originated in the late 8th century when Aldred, sub-king of Hwicce, gave land to support a Minster church in the area dedicated to St Michael the Archangel.
The area was known as the Bishop of Worcester's manor of Cleeve, from where the modern name probably originates.
However, it was not until the sixteenth century and the dissolution of church institutions that the land became the property of the King, who subsequently sold it to local manor lords.

Milton took on league leaders Bishops Cleeve at the Heights on a cold tuesday evening buoyed by an excellent derby victory the previous weekend however the visitors showed just why they are top of the pile with a superb display.
The breakthrough came on 35 minutes as Cleeves top scorer Kevin Slack broke clear to fire the visitors ahead and despite only one up at the break there was an air on inevitability about the outcome.
To their credit, Milton never gave up and from this performance it would appear that Bishops Cleeve are rightfully ahead of the rest in the premier division and Milton are consigned to scrapping their way out of the relegation dog-fight.
