Nowadays, Bishopstone railway station is almost forgotten, an unstaffed halt and the last stop on the Lewes - Seaford railway line.
Bishopstone was a modest station, constructed with only passenger traffic in mind.
It is unstaffed (although a newsagents still operates in part of the frontage), and one of the two railway tracks running through the station has been removed, leaving a derelict and crumbling concrete platform opposite the operational one.

Highlight for the day were the first 3 Wheatears for the year, 1 in the early morning on the seawall east of the Towers and 2 this evening on the promenade just west of the Visitors' Centre.
On the seawall by the oyster farm there were 4 Scandinavian Rock Pipits and an apparent increase in alba Wagtails although none could be positively identified as White Wagtails.
There were few birds to be seen, but 5 Meadow Pipits were trying to find something to eat at the base of the cliffs and a few waders waited on the beach for the tide to go out.

What is known is that the Beattie family (all generations) to 1945, had very strong ties to the Coast Guards through the 1800s and to the Royal and Merchant Navy.
Some of the earliest records are found in the 1881 Census, Bishopstone, County of Sussex.
There are two families of the same name living only a short distance apart, and it is felt that they may have been related, the older couple very probably being related to the younger family in the census.

 The Dominion of Canada School Competition Medal
The Bishopstone E.G.S. School of the Village of Bishopstone, Swindon, Wiltshire England was one of the schools that participated in the program, and its student Elsie Stone was the winning essayist in 1900-1901.
The school is housed in an old Victorian building dating back to 1849 but now has only two classes with children aged from 4 to 11 years, being one of the smallest state primary schools in England with just 38 children on roll at present.
Elsie stone was born in that village in 1887, daughter of Emily and Edwin Stone, her father being a Bishopstone Innkeeper.
