		Located in County Durham, England, the village of Bishopton is in the borough of Darlington and situated to the west of Stockton-on-Tees.
		Bishopton is mentioned in records as early as 1104, however, the only remains of any previous occupation or settlement in the area is that of the castle at Castle Hill.

		Bishopton Action Group could not understand why this statement appeared in the National Planning Framework in 2004, since there was no justification given and no assessment of potential had been carried out with regard to the ROF site.

		Greenockite was first described by Jameson, and Connell, in 1840, who examined specimens found in a railway cutting at Bishopton, on the south bank of the River Clyde, a few miles west of Glasgow.
		These lavas show extensive hydrothermal alteration, caused by hot circulating groundwaters during cooling of the lava flows,, and it was during this alteration that the greenockite was formed.
		Although the original Bishopton railway tunnel/cutting locality is not accessible now, greenockite has turned up in fair quantities recently, in spoil produced during the construction of the M8 motorway, very close to the original locality.

		The fort at Whitemoss Farm, Bishopton, lies on the south shore of the Clyde Estuary about 3 miles to the west of the fort at Old Kilpatrick at the western end of the Antonine Wall on the opposite bank of the Clyde.
