  Definition: bit slip
bit slip: In digital transmission, the loss of a bit or bits, caused by variations in the respective clock rates of the transmitting and receiving devices.
Note: One cause of bit slippage is overflow of a receive buffer that occurs when the transmitter's clock rate exceeds that of the receiver.
This causes one or more bits to be dropped for lack of storage capacity.

Obviously the quality of the slip ring is a key determinant in the quality of the overall system.
For continuous rotation of 360 ° slip rings or rotary joints are required.
Besides contacting slip rings for the transfer of low data rates more and more non-contacting rotary joints are used, especially for the transmission of digital data at high bit rates.

A bit adapter according to claim 1, wherein the cutting plate is a hard metal plate and has a cutting edge contacting said bottom portion, wherein said hard metal plate is exclusively axially loaded during operation of said bit adapter.
A bit adapter according to claim 13, further comprising a torque limiter for cancelling a rotationally fixed connection between the screwdriver bit and the drill bit when a selected torque limit is surpassed.
A slip coupling can be embodied in any suitable manner as a torque limiter in the drill bit adaptor whereby it is preferred that the hexagonal or square receiving member for the screwdriver bit is guided rotationally within the drill bit adaptor against a locking resistance.

Note 1: Examples of bit error ratio are (a) transmission BER, i.e, the number of erroneous bits received divided by the total number of bits transmitted; and (b) information BER, i.e., the number of erroneous decoded (corrected) bits divided by the total number of decoded (corrected) bits.
Note: For n-ary operation, the bit rate is equal to log n times the rate (in bauds), where 2 n is the number of significant conditions in the signal.

A dropped bit occurs when the FIFO overflows, as a result of the input bit rate being temporarily higher than the output bit rate for too long.
It is important that the FIFO not create bit slips at any other time while it is operating in the permissible region between underflow and overflow.
Furthermore, whenever a bit slip must occur, it would make sense to do the slip in such a way that the next slip is postponed as long as possible.

Bit slip - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One cause of bit slippage is overflow of a receive buffer that occurs when the transmitter's clock rate exceeds that of the receiver.
One way to maintain timing between transmitting and receiving devices is to employ an asynchronous protocol such as start-stop.
Alternatively, bit slip can be prevented by using a self-clocking signal (such as a signal modulated using OQPSK) or using a line coding such as Manchester encoding.
