Shiga Prefecture has begun accepting entries to "The 10th Biwako Prize for Ecology," established to honor Japanese and foreign scientists who have made significant contributions to studies of ecology related to aquatic environments.
Shiga Prefecture, the home of Lake Biwa (Biwako), Japan's largest and the world's oldest lake, established the prize in 1991 in the hope of advancing ecological research associated with the environment and making contributions to conservation of the global environment.
The assessment reports also proposed that restrictions on news coverage by newspapers and broadcasting stations and their cooperation with the administration in the event of disasters should be studied in the future.
