Australia won the mixed pairs event, with Travis Denney and Kate Wilson-Smith outgunning Bjoern Siegemund and Nicol Pitro of Germany.

BIRMINGHAM: Mixed doubles pair Chew Choon Eng and Chin Eei Hui gave Malaysia an auspicious start to their World Championships campaign when they edged Germany's top pair of Bjoern Siegemund-Nicol Pitro 15-13, 17-14 at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham yesterday.
The German pair put up some resistance and even forced deuce in the second game but victory was never in doubt for the Malaysians, who sealed victory in less than an hour.
Choong Eng and Eei Hui en route to a 15-13, 17-14 win over Bjoern Siegemund-Nicol Pitro.
