Upper Proterozoic succession of Bjornoya   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
The Upper Palaeozoic succession on Bjornoya comprises eight formations with a maximum composite thickness of about 1300 metres.
The overlying Upper Carboniferous and Permian formations Consist largely of carbonates, with additional sandstones, shales, and cherts; these were deposited in shallow marine and coastal environments.
Variations in facies and thickness together with palaeocurrent patterns suggest that Bjornoya lay near the southern margin of a depositional basin during much of the Upper Palaeozoic.

The sandstone pebbles in the gravel include a variety of petrographic types, most of which are identical or similar to sandstones of known stratigraphic position on Svalbard.
Observations on Mesozoic rocks on Bjornoya, Hopen and southern Spitsbergen, and on the distribution of pebbles as described herein, suggest that the Spitsbergen Bank is underlain by nearly flat-lying Mesozoic sedimentary rocks similar to those known on Svalbard.
The overall structure is a gentle syncline; a southward continuation of the dominant regional structure of Spitsbergen.

As much as we love to play war and dabble in other such crisis for dramatic and RPing purposes, our citizens (if we can put ourselves in their shoes) would be absolutely horrified by their surroundings if they have not been completely desensitized to them yet.

 Isfjord Radio

Bjornoya is too short a record to cast light on the problem pre WWII cold anomaly in Isfjord Radio.
The CRU Northern Hemisphere compilation Jones et al 1985 looked at 2666 stations, so clearly the project would have taken many more years to complete if the sort of greater detail climatology involved in the justification of Isfjord Radio was applied to every station, as elementary scientific principles would dictate.
