The district is named after Blaby, but also includes Braunstone Town, Cosby, Countesthorpe, Glenfield (the location of the headquarters of Leicestershire County Council), Enderby, Glen Parva, Huncote, Kirby Muxloe, Leicester Forest East, Narborough, Sapcote, Stoney Stanton, and Wigston Parva.
Blaby was represented in Parliament by the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nigel Lawson, between 1974 and 1992.
It became a rural district of Leicestershire in 1894.

Blaby is a village in central Leicestershire, England, some five miles south of Leicester city centre and with a population of around 6,240 (2001 figures).
Otherwise 'new' Blaby is less a village than a suburb of Greater Leicester, with most shops and amenitites standing on the A426 between Leicester to the north and Lutterworth to the south.
It gives its name to the Blaby district and also to the Parliamentary constituency that was held by former Chancellor of the Exchequer Nigel Lawson between 1974 and 1992.

The area of the District of Blaby is designated as an area to which section 10 (prohibition of unauthorised camping in designated areas) of the Caravan Sites Act 1968 applies.
It is an offence within a designated area for a gipsy to station a caravan for the purpose of residing for any period on any land within the boundaries of a highway, or on any other unoccupied land, or on any occupied land without the consent of the occupier.

It is understood the man, who was in his 70s, was one of a number of people infected by salmonella bacteria after a tournament at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club, in Leicestershire, in June.
Blaby District Council is investigating the outbreak and the club's kitchen has been closed.
In a statement released today, the club's manager, Brian Woodcock, said: "The club can confirm that as a result of an investigation by environmental health officers, the kitchen at the club, which was independently managed, has been voluntarily closed.

Local Authorities, including Blaby District Council, are under a duty to review and assess the levels of these pollutants in their areas, and predict whether national action is sufficient to bring about compliance with the objectives.
