 | | ABA began as an ad hoc group that emerged out of a need to give fl voices and perspectives a forum where the hegemonic voices of anthropology could be contested, and where fl anthropologists could be heard, engaged, and understood. |
 | | The organization was an outgrowth of the Minority Caucus, from there it developed into the Caucus of Black Anthropologists, and finally, it became the Association of Black Anthropologists, officially acknowledged at the AAA meetings of 1975 (for a more detailed history, see the ABA Directory). |
