Arch Enemy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Arch Enemy is a Swedish death metal band, formed in 1995.
Arch Enemy was originally assembled when the band Carcass ended, and guitarist Michael Amott (ex-Carcass and Carnage) and vocalist and bassist Johan Liiva (ex-Carnage) joined guitarist Christopher Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson in order to play together once more.
In 1998 Arch Enemy released Stigmata, which counted with the addition of bassist Martin Bengtsson, who was added so that Liiva could concentrate fully on the vocals.

Arch Enemy is still in a league of their own for creating such fine guitar oriented metal that doesn't fall prey to power metal pompousness or soundalike status for In Flames imitation.
Then, much to the surprise of the metal world, Arch Enemy chose a young lady from Germany to assume the microphone duties and to my dismay, her approach is a hoarse, monotonous growl.
But what she fails to do is add a new dimension to Arch Enemy's music, which one would hope a new presence would accomplish.

Non-Swede and Arch Enemy enthusiast Angela Gossow is one hell of a vocalist, and the musical backdrop of Wages of Sin provides the perfect showcase for Gossow and Arch Enemy to show the world they're not out to make candy-coated metal as Stigmata once indicated.
With Wages of Sin, Arch Enemy have a new vocalist, a more defined and focused sound and a better idea of where the band is heading compositionally, so negative criticism aside the album will prove to be one of the brighter moments this year.

Arch Enemy : Stigmata - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
The vehicle through which death metal guitar hero Michael Amott channeled his most extreme instrumental concepts, Arch Enemy was an experiment that produced predictably wild and undeveloped results.
After the group's debut, Black Earth, shocked and amazed many fans of the Gothenburg sound, Arch Enemy signed with indie metal powerhouse Century Media and released Stigmata in 1998.
These problems are really minor when balanced against Amott's massive playing and songwriting, so while Stigmata is a fraction off from the band's debut form, Arch Enemy still delivers some nice melodic death metal on the sophomore effort.
