Metalcore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Metalcore is a musical genre consisting of a mix between heavy metal and hardcore.
It should be noted that metalcore and crossover are generally considered separate identities, with "crossover" referring to a mix of thrash metal and hardcore punk, and metalcore being a slower, heavier, hardcore-rooted style influenced by thrash metal and death metal.
On the other hand, while not thought of as a metalcore band by many today, Breakdown was arguably one of the earliest to fuse heavy metal-influenced riffing with a more traditional hardcore sound without being a thrash metal band.

Rough Edge: Age of Ruin CD Reviews
"Black Sands Of The Hourglass" is the band's first official full-length CD; the Tribunal release is actually a re-mastered re-issue of the band's debut with a couple of bonus tracks thrown in for good measure.
"Black Sands Of The Hourglass" maintains its dark presence while still managing to bring a little swing and groove to their music without resorting to the tired idioms of modern metal.
"Black Sands Of The Hourglass" was produced by Daniel Fleming, Patrick Owens, and Ben Mellot.

 Code Black Biography & Reviews
Code Black takes a most refreshing approach to metalcore music and "Penetration" is one of the most pleasant surprises I've had this year.
Also, closing instrumental "Black Mirror" is kind of pretentious with its multiple false endings and samples, though it actually shows Mark Wolzenburg can play a mean solo if he chooses to.
The new release from Code Black is a significant departure from Colour Trip's raw and guttural sound, but it effectively retains the brutal aggression that Colour Trip was always well-known for.

Reignition Recordings has assembled some of the best metalcore bands out there to pay tribute to one of the most pure punk bands to ever pick up instruments and rage, Black Flag.
The Hope Conspiracy comes in right after though and rescues the rest of the disc with their version of “Nervous Breakdown,” without a doubt it is one of the disc’s many highlights.
All in all Black Flag fans will probably hate most of this while fans of these bands will probably love the disc from start to finish.

Eternal Black Dawn, MP3 Album Music Download at eMusic
In fact, Eternal Black Dawn is totally untouched by post-'80s, post-Nevermind trends in metal and hard rock; the disc is oblivious to alternative metal and there isn't a trace of grunge, death metal, rap-metal/rapcore, industrial metal, or even thrash to be found on any of the songs.
Eternal Black Dawn is loud and aggressive, but not in a harsh, punishing, go-for-the-jugular way.
Eternal Black Dawn isn't as consistent as it could have been, but for the most part, Omen's writing is decent -- and while the disc falls short of exceptional, it's worth checking out if you're a die-hard fan of old-school fantasy metal.

Though you might think the somber cover art and album title hides some melancholic Euro-goth, Norway’s Lengsel plays brutal fl metalcore that’s less progressive than Extol (both bands share the same management) but no less inventive.
The doomy chill of "Hours" is advanced by its measured pace and its horror film samples; then a Spanish guitar strums the tune further before the double-timed density kicks in to finish off the song.
"Coat Of Arms" is more fl metal than anything, while the church organ introduces a Cynic-al "Stille Dualisme," sung completely in Norwegian (as is "Avmakt," one of the only cuts with blatantly Christian lyrics, justifying the Solid State involvement).

Black Sabbath has been so influential in the development of heavy metal rock music as to be a defining force in the style.
If their predecessors clearly came out of an electrified blues tradition, Black Sabbath took that tradition in a new direction, and in so doing helped give birth to a musical style that continued to attract millions of fans decades later.

Keeping up with the extreme output North Carolina has been known for in recent years, "A Desperate Man's Diaries" takes key nods from metalcore, fl metal, death metal and grind, among others, and buries them all alive underneath a metric ton of abrasive riffage.
Kicked in the throat vocals bellow and screech out their heated contributions to the tracks as the band discharge their aggression in a loose, yet proficient nature.
Technically charged, the overall song compositions are borderline tech in places as the group routinely switch gears and tempos, while grinding down their guitar picks and splintering their drumsticks in the process.

This is probably the only band that has ever tried to play grindcore, metalcore, death metal, fl metal, prog metal, and power metal in the same song.
To their credit, these guys can pull off each of these different genres with decent success, but it is certainly not necessary to cover all that ground as a band, much less on an album, much less on every song.
However, my favorite moment on the album is the opening riff of the title track, as it runs a prog/power lead over a metalcore breakdown.
