Black Sabbath (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Black Sabbath is the self-titled debut album of the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath released in the UK on Friday the 13th, February 1970.
Many critics consider this album, especially the title track, to be definitive of the entire genre of heavy metal; it was arguably the first album to be classified as true heavy metal.
The influence of Led Zeppelin, especially the use of blues rhythm, on heavy metal is apparent on this album, as are that genre's themes related to the occult.

Heaven and Hell (Black Sabbath album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Heaven and Hell is an album by Black Sabbath, released in May 1980 (see 1980 in music).
This was the first album after the removal of singer Ozzy Osbourne from the band and was the first album featuring Ronnie James Dio as his replacement, who brought his own unique style of song writing and vocalisation to the band.
Sabbath had in fact begun demoing material with singer Dio before Ozzy was formally fired.

Black Sabbath became one of the definitive classic heavy metal bands, to be ranked alongside Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Judas Priest.
The next album Sabotage was not released until 1975 and the follow-up to that, Technical Ecstasy (1976) was the last Ozzy-Era album in the heavy Sabbath style.

Glenn Hughes was the vocalist on this album.
If you listen to Black Sabbath's lyrics, their songs were actually more about demons and Satan when Ronnie James Dio was in the band than they were when Ozzy was singing.
Dio didn't like the way the album was mixed, as he felt his vocals were too quiet; the problem was he was mixing it during the day and Tony Iommi was remixing it during the night.

Sabbath finally takes a break, and after two years returns with a stellar album, which is at least in part about the real life problems they were having with their management.
This album is identical to the regular version, with the two exceptions of the liner notes being in Japanese, and the inclusion of a track "What's the Use?" which doesn't appear anywhere else on a Sabbath album.
The original Black Sabbath reunited for two shows at the NEC in Birmingham England in December of 1997, and this album was recorded at those shows.

Black Sabbath is a British heavy metal band, originally comprised of John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Terence "Geezer" Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums).
Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham, England in 1966 under the name Polka Tulk Blues Band (soon shortened to "Polka Tulk"), and later Earth.
The newly-named Black Sabbath adopted darker lyrical themes, and a slower, ominous style - a significant element in the genre that would later be known as heavy metal, often ranked above Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Judas Priest in importance and influence in the genre.

 Black Sabbath Album Reviews
The band's most famous album was a U.K. #1 hit and went to #8 in the U.S., largely on the strength of three of their greatest songs.
The Hipgnosis album cover illustrates the band’s increased use of studio technology, but the end result is slicker, not better, and any Sabbath fan will be struck by how little “heavy metal” exists on the album; even the best songs are more “hard rock” than anything else.
Ozzy was fired (later briefly reuniting with Black Sabbath for a much ballyhooed late ‘90s Reunion tour and album), and diminutive former Rainbow singer Ronnie James Dio was hired, a move that ignited all involved, at least for a little while.

 Black Sabbath Album Reviews
Black Sabbath's grind is an impossibly corpulent sludge, wallowing in its own colossal heaviness and some of the most brutal, bludgeoning riffs in the history of popular music.
Parts of the album seem to be the sound of Sabbath finding their feet, but overall this is a very good album.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is a bit of a divisive album, as its detractors consider it the beginning of the end, but despite its flaws and considerably less brutal power, it's still Sabbath in their prime, offering a pleasing combination of catchy heaviness and slightly peculiar, but oh so charming attempts at a certain elegance.

On the contrary, Sabbath were playing on the brink of 'blasphemous' from the very beginning - starting from the name of the band and ending with hoardes of witches that were putting hexes on them every few months (funny enough, the band members were so afraid of it themselves that they started wearing crosses).
Sitting through an entire Black Sabbath album in one go is generally a much harder task than sitting through an entire Purple or Led Zep album, especially if you're not addicted to heavy metal as a genre: the tone is rarely varied, and when it is, it often leads to embarrassments.
The reasons are that first, their albums are quite easy to assimilate, be they great or crappy; and second, I doubt whether it's more difficult to get a complete discography of any other band than the one of Sabbath in Russia.

So, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" is a true gem which proves Black Sabbath were successfully able to expand on their sound and add creative touches to their music, while still remaining true to their roots.
After the overwhelming "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath," the listener is offered a reprieve with the laid-back yet fully captivating "A National Acrobat." The beautiful melancholy acoustic "Fluff" is perhaps Iommi's all-time greatest instrumental and serves as a sharp contrast to the rest of the album.
This isn't the case at all, however, with "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath." This album is the perfect example of a band experimenting, growing, and maturing, without loosing its teeth or letting its ambitions run wild.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has no problem organizing his priorities.
However, by committing so resolutely to Sabbath, Iommi has been unable to support the recent release of his second solo album, Fused, a granite-solid slab that sounds more like a groove-saturated cross between Deep Purple and Audioslave than anything by Sabbath.
Fittingly enough, Iommi was joined on the record by ex-Deep Purple singer/bassist Glenn Hughes (who sang with Sabbath in the '80s), session drummer extraordinaire Kenny Aronoff and bassist/keyboardist Bob Marlette, who also produced the disc and co-wrote all of the songs.

Black Sabbath is, in my opinion, the band that created and defined heavy metal as we know it today.
Their first official album Black Sabbath, released in 1970, was as far as I know the first album of its kind.
There were, of course, several other great rock bands around when Sabbath began - The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin - but no one before Sabbath had ever played the kind of dark, heavy sounding music that we now know as heavy metal.

The archetypal heavy metal band, Black Sabbath unleashed a debut album marked by ponderous, sludgy rhythms, heavily distorted riffs and chords, and more than a whiff of darkness and Black Magic.
Though no one could have predicted it at the time, Sabbath was laying the groundwork for a genre that would continue to grow in popularity through the '70s, '80s, '90s, and beyond.
BLACK SABBATH announces the arrival of both the band and the style in no uncertain terms.
