Black Uhuru is a Jamaican reggae band probably best known for their hits "Shine Eye Gal", "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Sinsemilla," "Solidarity," and "What Is Life?".
Originally formed as Uhuru (the Swahili word for freedom) and consisting of Garth Dennis, Don Carlos, and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, the group has undergone several lineup changes: Carlos left, replaced by Michael Rose; then Dennis left to play with The Wailing Souls, and was replaced by Errol Nelson.
Black Uhuru is a Jamaican reggae band probably best known for their hits "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "Sinsemilla," "Mondays," and "Chill Out." The group was the first group to win a Grammy in the reggae category when it was introduced in 1984.

Black Uhuru, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning "freedom", was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Ervin "Don Carlos" Spencer, Rudolph "Garth" Dennis and Derrick "Duckie" Simpson.
Black Uhuru will always remain one of the great reggae acts, despite the fact that the international status that they deserved proved elusive.
