Participatory economics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Albert and Hahnel favour Pigovian taxes as long a market economy is in place, which sometimes appear as green taxes, over other solutions to environmental problems such as command and control, or the issuance of marketable permits.
However, Hahnel, who teaches ecological economics at American University, argues that in a market economy it would be predictable that businesses would try to avoid the "polluter pays principle" by shifting the burden of the costs for their polluting activities to consumers.
Although participatory economics falls under the left-wing political tradition as well as also under the anarchist political tradition, it is described as being specifically designed to avoid the creation of powerful intellectual elites or coordinatorism, which is perceived as the trap into which the economies of the communist states of the 20th century fell.

From the Economics of War to Economies of Peace
What fosters the formation of fl economies, in which economic exchange is ultimately regulated by recourse to violence, is not absolute poverty, but aggressive competition for internationally marketable resources and the prospect of handsome, though unlawful profits.
As arms on the fl market are exclusively traded in convertible currency, there must be a criminal entrepreneur in the background who chooses to invest his dollars in the purchase of automatic guns and who then equips and cynically employs child soldiers.
Without taking precautions that the embeddedness of the economy in the networks of shadow globalisation is replaced by an active integration into the regular economy, the war may end, but the regulatory violence is likely to continue or even to expand.

Black marketing is also common in exchange of foreign for domestic currency, typically in those countries that have set the official exchange value of domestic currency too high in terms of the purchasing power of foreign money.
Black-market money activities also grow when holders of domestic currency are anxious to convert it into foreign currency through a fear that the former is losing its purchasing power as a result of inflation.

Along with Africa's integration into the global economy, the ways in which the domestic economies of African states are structured is also a telling effect of colonialism in Africa.
This is partially due to the economic legacy of colonialism; particularly the integration of the African economy into the global economy, partially due to bad leaders and bad economic policies, or good leaders with bad economic policies, but for some reason the economic policies have been wretched.
The African economies were developing and thriving at the onset of colonialism and one can argue that colonialism cut off the natural process of development in Africa not sped it up and in fact, this may be the most telling colonial economic legacy in Africa.

Monthly Review July-August 2006 Richard D. Vogel ¦ Undocumented Workers and the U.S. Informal Economy
Referred to variously as “underground,” “shadow,” “invisible,” and “fl” (as in “fl market”) economies, many informal economies have developed around the economic survival activities of workers who have been excluded from the formal economy of their nation or region and exploited by entrepreneurs willing to take advantage of their desperation.
Although the earnings of immigrant workers in the informal economy are inferior to that of native workers across the board, they do not represent the rock bottom of exploitation—the Economic Roundtable’s breakdown of earnings by gender reveals the severity of the super-exploitation of undocumented women workers in the Los Angeles informal economy.
Informal economies arise when the workers in one economic region of the world lose out to the workers in another region and the formal economy of the loser region contracts or collapses.

The US trackers, he says, have a hugely difficult task on their hands - and, of course, Western intelligence services have to live with the fact that in both funds and manpower they may be well outgunned by the terrorist networks they are trying to shut down.
