The Blackburn Ripon was a British carrier-based torpedo-bomber and reconnaissance biplane which first flew in 1928.
The Blackburn Ripon saw service with the Fleet Air Arm as well as with the Finnish air force.
The Finnish air force used Ripons as reconnaissance aircraft against the Soviet Union in the Winter War and the Continuation War.

The Blackburn Ripon was a pre-war carrier-borne torpedo-bomber and reconaissance aircraft, a development of the Swift, Dart and Velos family.
In total 123 were built and there were in addition 25 Blackburn Ripon II F: a Finnish assembled Ripon.
Perhaps only one Blackburn Ripon exists in the world, this is Blackburn Ripon IIF RI-140 which is in storage in Vesivehmaa (Finland).

The main force until converting to land-based aircraft was the Ripons and the Sääskis.

The concept and general arrangement of the Hanley and Hendon Types were followed once again in the Harrow two-seat torpedo carrier, designed to meet Specification 21/23 in competition with the Blackburn Ripon.
In the summer of 1928, N205 was converted by the fitting of twin floats, with the lateral bracing going to the inboard interplane struts to allow the torpedo to be slung under the fuselage centre line.
Once again the Blackburn design was chosen for production for the Fleet Air Arm and the second Harrow, N206, may not have been completed.

A typical deployment was on the aircraft carrier HMS Courageous, where 16 Flycatchers would serve alongside 16 Blackburn Ripons and 16 reconnaissance aircraft.
Very popular with pilots, the Flycatchers were easy to fly and very maneuverable.
