Blackford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana.
Blackford served as a Justice of the Indiana Supreme Court from 1817 - 1853.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 27.50% from 25 to 44, 24.90% from 45 to 64, and 15.40% who were 65 years of age or older.

In the county the population was spread out with 27.30% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 22.20% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $43,934, and the median income for a family was $51,517.

Grant county furnished its full quota of volunteers during the dark days of the Civil war, and among these was Martin V. Montgomery, now a highly respected farmer-citizen of Center township, where he has passed many years in the tilling of the soil.
She was born in Blackford county, Indiana, October 27, 1856, and was reared and educated in Jefferson township, where she had been brought at the age of three years by her parents, Richard and Lydia (Capper) Reasoner.
He father was a native of Ohio and her mother of Virginia, and they were married in Grant county and later moved to Blackford county, but eventually returned to Jefferson township and located on a tract of 120 acres, located on section 5.

Blackford county is one of Indiana’s eastern central counties located northeast of Indianapolis.
In 1890, the county population was 10,461; 1900, 17,231; 1910, 15,820; 1920, 14,084; 1930, 13,617.
In the eastern part of the county is the “Godfroy Reserve,” which for a long time was the residence of the Indian Chief Godfroy, esteemed highly by the whites as well as the Indians.

John Saxon, a farmer residing on section 33, Washington Township, is a representative of one of the early pioneer families of Blackford County.
The father of our subject was born in Putnam County, New York, in 1804, removing thence to Steuben County, New York, where he lived several years, and was there married to Asenath Wixson, a native of New York State, born in 1808, a daughter of Shubel and Elizabeth Wixson, who died in Blackford County.
In 1850 her parents, Samuel and Ann (Shields) Mills, came with their family of four children to Blackford County, Indiana, and settled on a partially improved farm on section 28, Washington Township, near the farm of John Saxon.

Blackford county was named in honor of Judge Blackford, one of the pioneer judges of Indiana.
Hartford City is the county seat of Blackford county, and is one of the most enterprising towns of northeastern Indiana.
It took two separate acts of Legislature before the organization of the county became effective, and it was not until after the fourth set of commissioners were appointed, February 24, 1840, that the County Seat was finally located at Hartford, the site probably selected by the second set of commissioners.
