The lower photo shows the junction of the North and South Branches of Blacklick Creek taken from the trail bridge crossing the North Branch of Blacklick Creek.
The Blacklick furnace was the second hot blast furnace built in the Blacklick Creek Valley: the Eliza furnace was the first.

Derry Township, the largest township in area in Westmoreland County, was organized by the Court of Quarter Sessions in April, 1773, (sic – 1775) and was the first township established within the county after it was originally chartered.
The boundaries were described by the court as follows: “Beginning at the Loyalhanna, thence along the line of Fairfield township till it strikes Blacklick; then along down Two Lick till it strikes Conemaugh; then down the Conemaugh till it strikes Kiskiminitas; then up the Loyalhanna to the place of the beginning.”.
EAST: The townships of Fairfield to the north and Ligonier to the south, the dividing line being the Chestnut Ridge.

A Rail-Trail in Cambria & Indiana Counties, Pennsylvania, extending for 19.5 miles in the Blacklick Creek Valley of Pennsylvania from Nanty Glo and White Mill (near Belsano) in Cambria County to Dilltown in Indiana County.
Although not in Pennsylvania, this trail is within driving distance, linking the four corners of Ohio in a 1435 mile circuit running from Headland Dunes State Park on Lake Erie, south to Cincinnati and back around the state to the west.
The mission of the Friends is to establish and maintain a public, multi-use trail and natural greenway corridor along the abandoned Genesee Valley Canal and its successor, the Pennsylvania Railroad, Rochester Division, from the Erie Canal Heritage Trail in Rochester, NY to Hinsdale, Cattaraugus County, NY.

Later, a school was opened on the Blacklick or northerly side of the creek.
In 1957 the school district merged with that of Vintondale, and later Blacklick Township became part of a triple jointure to form the present Blacklick Valley School District in 1967.
Nanty Glo was incorporated as a borough in 1918 and was formed from taking parts of Blacklick Township on the northerly side and Jackson Township on the southerly side of the creek.

It interchanged with the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) at Rexis, which is just west of Vintondale and the Indiana - Cambria county border in southern Buffington township.
The Rexis Branch connected to Conrail's Blacklick Secondary, which was also severely damaged and abandoned between Dias (north of Armagh) in Indiana County and Beulah (east of Nanty Glo) in Cambria County.
Conrail sold what was left of the eastern end of the Blacklick Secondary, which runs through Ebensburg, to RJ Corman, along with the rest of CR's "Clearfield Cluster" in the mid to late 90's.
