Blackout (The Scorpions album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blackout is an album by the German rock band The Scorpions, released in 1982.
This effort by Scorpions shows off their uncanny ability to pull off energetic songs and to produce an easily commercialisable brand of heavy metal with a pop shine.
It is of note that singer Klaus Meine had to undergo surgery on his vocal chords during the writing of the album, and it was uncertain whether he would be able to record it.

Scorpions (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Scorpions are a melodic metal band, originally from Hannover, Germany.
The Scorpions spent their first fifteen years as a largely unheralded German hard rock band, popular in Europe and Japan but unable to crack the large American market.
The album opened with the heavy metal song “Alien Nation”, that many headbangers consider to be Scorpions best work.

 Scorpions History
As musicians, the individual Scorpions members have regularly held leading positions in various readers' polls, their albums topping all the important charts the world over with absolute confidence, not least, because of the ingenious sound work of producer and arranger Dieter Dierks.
Their album "Fly To The Rainbow" came out in 1974, followed by "In Trance" (1975), one of the first highlights in their budding career, and the first one, which was produced and engineered by Dieter Dierks.
The album, complete with cover artwork by photographer Helmut Newton, was full of great numbers and became one of the internationally best-selling Rock albums of all time.

The SCORPIONS achieved their ambition to be the top German hard rock band, when their fourth album Virgin Killer (1976) won the "LP of the Year" award in Germany.
The SCORPIONS gave a foretaste of what is to come when, at the invitation of the German government, they played in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on 11 November 1999, the 10th anniversary of German reunification.
The successful collaboration with Christian Kolonovits led the SCORPIONS in 2001 to immediately follow the Moment Of Glory joint venture with the Berlin Philharmonic with the unplugged album Acoustica that had long been planned and was eagerly awaited by the band’s Asian fans.

Unbreakable, the twentieth Scorpions album, is the quintessence of thirty-five years of Scorpions history.
From the very beginning, it was the vision of Scorpions founder Rudolf Schenker "to conquer the world through music" and "one day count among the best heavy rock bands in the world." In musical terms, the Scorpions cover the whole spectrum of rock-specific genres in 2004: hard 'n' heavy, unplugged and crossover.

Blackout has one of thier biggest hits ever in No One Like You but aside from that it is also one of their most critically acclaimed albums from fans of melodic rock as well as heavy metal due to the album having many of their heaviest songs on it.
Matthias is also in fine form on this album and to me this is the best guitar work of his career.

Besides the quick riffs of the title track, this album is most noted for "No One Like You", which was in heavy FM radio rotation, and the infectious "Can't Live Without You".
On 'Blackout', the Scorpions' leanings toward more radio-friendly pop metal hooks is apparent as this record was a precursor for the huge pop metal status they would attain from their follow-up album, 'Love At First Sting'.
The Scorpions were noted for creating simple, catchy hooks, but unlike 'Sting', the Scorps didn't quite overkill that quality on this record.

Blackout: the CD opens with the title track, and what a track it is. It is about getting wasted, fling out, and trying to figure out what happened the night before.
The Scorpions may have since sullied their timeless reputation with strange records that make little sense (even though the band HAS fairly been evolving drastically from it's origins) but this record is any bit as good as "Screaming for Vengence" or "Number of the Beast".
Blackout, even more so than Love at First Sting, is the perfect balance between the two, the band writing powerful hooks that do nothing to compromise the bristling metal might of that first legendary salvo.

The Scorpions have been around since the time of the Revolution in rock, when bands like Pink Floyd were slipping into temporary recession (with their famed frontman and founder Syd Barrett going insane, and internecine ego hassles) and other bands like The Doors were riding high (both figuratively and literally).
The album had another cult hit, Rock You Like A Hurricane (which is now reworked and renamed Hurricane 2001 for their latest tour, which by the way, is part of a punishing tour that takes them half-way across the globe -- from Seoul to Athens).
The Scorpions are doing the Indian leg of their tour with a fifteen-member orchestra with a much-hyped show at Bangalore.

With the new album we want to show that we are a strong hard rock band, that released an album with 10 strong rock songs and 2 strong ballads.
Jabs: “Blackout”, “Love at first sting”, “Crazy World” and “Unbreakable”, not because it is our latest album, but because it had that retro feeling during the recording and mixing process.

Blackout was the Scorpions' first majorly successful album, due to its clever balance of pop/rock (the title track), power ballads ("When the Smoke Is Going Down"), and catchy heavy metal ("Dynamite," "No One Like You").
The rest of the band sounds great as well, and the album is highlighted by the fast-paced performances of guitarists Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs.
Blackout has arguably been called the Scorpions' best record ever, and that statement is not unjust -- it has more energy than anything else they have ever released.

By looking at this album's tracklist, you can easily see that two of the band's biggest hits were originally recorded for this album - the fast, furious and heavy title track, and the mainstream-oriented power rocker, No One Like You.
And, of course, as with any Scorpions albums, there is way more here than meets the eye.
One thing that greatly angers me is that the Scorpions have been deemed a glam/hair metal band due to all of their popularity in the eighties amongst bands of those stylings, and their long hair.
