BLACKROD, a village and a township-chapelry in Bolton-le-Moors parish, Lancashire.
In 1835 Blackrod was a township in the parish of Bolton.
For probate purposes prior to 1858, Blackrod was in the Archdeaconry of Chester, in the Diocese of Chester.

Situated between Chorley and Bolton on the line to Preston, Blackrod station has been stripped of the importance it once had as a junction station on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway.
To its inhabitants, it's still known as "the village", but is probably too large to be accurately described as such.
However, when the railway came, the station was named after Blackrod's larger neighbour, Horwich.

As the half progressed Villa started to catch the home side on the break, on 35 minutes Ryan Lilley put the ball into the net only for the effort to be disallowed for an infringement in the box, but given the first half onslaught Villa were happy to reach the break only one goal down.

Initially it is hoped best practice at Rivington and Blackrod will filter through into the Deane, but in the long term, those behind the initiative want the traffic to be two-way.
A root and branch reform of the Deane's curriculum and approach to learning is being undertaken between now and its reopening as a new school in September.

Blackrod Friends of Chernobyl's Children will be inviting children from Belarus to stay this year for four weeks from mid-June.
The children will be staying with families in the Blackrod area and enjoying days out to Blackpool, Southport, and Chester Zoo as well as local activities such as walks around Rivington, swimming and activities in the hall.

The earliest written record states that the Manor of Blackrod was held by William Peverel in 1125.
The M61, part of the national motorway network between the M60/M62 (Manchester) and the M6 (Preston) was opened on November 28th 1969 by Fred Mulley, Minister of Transport.

BLACKROD'S Dawn Higson the Junior World Arm Wrestling Champion (right arm) has returned from the World Arm Wrestling Championships in Tokyo, Japan on 5th December after travelling for 43 hours.
Despite putting up a brave challenge Dawn from Vicarage Road, has lost her title and has had to settle for the runners up prize.
Dawn attends Rivington and Blackrod High School, she got started in the sport at 13 years of age, and trains five days a week at Bolton Arena Gymnasium under her coach Paul Maiden.
