The mill was located at the east edge of Herrick, south of the Nickel Plate railroad tracks, on the east side of the street, which is East Street.
It is not known when Joe D. ceased to operate the mill as his records and only known picture were destroyed when their house, next to the mill, burned down.

Litton Mill lies downstream from Millers Dale station and is notorious for the uncompromising treatment of orphans by Ellis Needham, some as young as 9 years old, from London and other major cities.
Despite its dark past, the mill is an interesting building which is now in the process of conversion into luxury apartments.
The subsequent mill was in use until the mid 1960’s.

The Blackwell Settlement was made on Grand Prairie five miles north of Macon, and was composed of William Blackwell, Nathan Richardson, and John Walker, an Old Revolutionary soldier.
The first mill in the county was erected in Morrow Township, by William Morrow, about the year 1833, near the banks of a stream which was known as "Stinking Creek." This inelegant appellation was applied to that stream because the water therein presented a muddy appearance, and when stirred emitted an obnoxious odor.
