 Report on South Lanarkshire Council by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland
On 21 July 1996 South Lanarkshire Council acknowledged our decision that 67 wards were appropriate for its area and expressed disappointment at what, it considered, was the unsatisfactory manner in which we had responded to earlier submissions regarding the appropriate level of representation for its area.
South Lanarkshire Council was asked to make available for inspection at its offices copies of the electoral ward boundary descriptions, electoral statistics and illustrative maps.
The designation of the electoral wards that we recommend for South Lanarkshire Council, together with information winch we have received from the Council as to the 1996 electorate and forecast 2001 electorate of the proposed wards are set out at Appendix B to this report.

Almost 200 Scottish Homes houses in North and South Lanarkshire are set to transfer to community ownership after tenants voted ‘yes’ in two ballots.
In Blackwood, Lanark and Rigside an overwhelming 98 per cent of tenants who returned a ballot paper in a month-long secret postal vote said they wanted to transfer ownership and management of their houses to Clydesdale Housing Association.
Over 1,000 Scottish Homes houses in South Lanarkshire are set to vote on transfer proposals by next spring.

Buan's son was Rotaldus de VERE (also known as WERE of Blackwood) who had a charter for Blackwood 1398/1400 and was recorded as Bailie of Lesmahagow, followed by Thomas WERE (also recorded as Weir) of Blackwood, father of Robert VEYR (also recorded as Vere/Weir) of Blackwood who was born circa 1430 and died circa 1479.
Weirs/Veres of Stonebyres and Archtyfardle and Mossmynemion were branches of the Weirs of Blackwood.  In the 1500s a century-old feud between the Weirs of Blackwood and their cousins the Veres of Stonebyres was supposedly ended when the Veres swore allegiance to Weir of Blackwood and acknowledged him as their chief.
Born in Lanarkshire, he was a lieutenant in the army sent by the Covenanters to protect the Ulster colonies in 1641.
