 BLADE: TRINITY - PREVIEW
Blade: Trinity however has the edge over other similar vampire-killer movies in that it features action star Wesley Snipes in a role he was born to play.
Written and directed by David S. Goyer, Blade: Trinity also stars Jessica Biel as Abigail, the daughter of Whistler (Kris Kristofferson), who inherits the vampire-slaying duties that once belonged to Blade (Wesley Snipes); and Ryan Reynolds (National Lampoon's Van Wilder) as Hannibal King, one of the Nightstalkers.
When the Vampire Nation hatches a plan to frame Blade in a series of brutal killings, he must join forces with the Nightstalkers, a clan of human vampire hunters, in an extreme battle in which the trail of blood leads directly to the notorious vampire legend, Dracula.

Sci Fi Wire -- The News Service of the Sci Fi Channel
David Goyer, writer and director of the upcoming sequel film Blade: Trinity, told SCI FI Wire that the movie is a month ahead of schedule and is going well enough that he's contemplating a future spinoff based on characters introduced in the film.
Goyer said that Blade: Trinity deals in part with Blade's teamup with a new breed of vampire hunters, called the Nightstalkers, played by Jessica Biel (Whistler's daughter, Abigail), Ryan Reynolds (Hannibal King), Natasha Lyonne and Patton Oswalt.
Goyer, who wrote screenplays for the previous two movies in the franchise, also steps behind the camera for the third installment, which brings back stars Wesley Snipes (Blade) and Kris Kristofferson (Whistler) and puts them with a crop of young new actors.

Comic Book Resources - CBR News - The Comic Reel
While this is Goyer's second film as director (he directed the indy film "ZigZag" in 2002), this is his first big-budget Hollywood production and it's an important one as "Blade: Trinity" will likely be the last film starring the character.
You may remember Posey from recent films like "A Mighty Wind" and "Best In Show." She may not be the first actress you'd think would be in a film like "Blade: Trinity," a thought that occurred to Goyer as well, but he's always enjoyed casting against type.
The film opens with a network news/talk show headed by Eric Bogosian, who's in a role similar to the one he had in "Talk Radio." A discussion of the existence of vampires and the vigilante Blade ensues that sets the tone for the rest of the film.

Humor thicker than blood in lively third 'Blade'
While "Blade" was heavy on blue-hued techno-rave imagery and "Blade II" was a horror film that seemed to take place mostly in sewers, "Blade: Trinity" features more daylight than both films combined and is refreshingly free of love interests for its main characters.
Under the direction of "Blade" and "Blade II" scribe David S. Goyer, "Blade: Trinity" vows to give the audience a double bill's worth of movie in less than two hours, and gets a little messy in the process.
"Blade: Trinity" languishes until Reynolds appears onscreen, and then he acts like a defibrillator, energizing the movie with a combination of action film moves and a Chandler-Bing-as-vampire-hunter stream of wisecracks.

Although the vampires in Blade: Trinity aren't scary, at least they are not emasculated by the romantic notions applied by writers such as Ann Rice.
As a character, Blade is a terrific property, and the films have enhanced the creation of Marvel Comics legends Marv Wolfman & Gene Colan (both of whom are "honored" by an in-joke in this film, when an issue of the old "Tomb of Dracula" gets screen time).

Blade: Trinity is definitely as slick as the original, crammed wall to wall with videogame-esque action and violence, backed up by a non-stop techno and hip-hop soundtrack and edited with the Short Attention Span generation in mind.
Blade: Trinity isn't the worst film of 2004 nor is it the worst film to deal with vampires this year.
Jessica Biel and Ryan Reynolds, the new, young blood (pardon the pun) of the series, do manage to give the film the small bits of life to be found, Biel with her gorgeous, ass-kicking presence and Reynolds with his sharp (and desperately needed) comic timing.

Trinity” is a disjointed and headache-inducing experience right from the start, when in actuality; a “Blade” film shouldn’t feel like that until the last 20 minutes.
And much like “Chucky,” “Trinity” is a disorganized, chaotic film that directly flies in the face of what was accomplished in the previous sequel.

Wesley Snipes, star of all three Blade movies-- including the upcoming Blade: Trinity -- said one of the challenges of sequels is trying to better the previous film.
David Goyer, who wrote all three Blade movies, and also directed Blade: Trinity, said he thought of Snipes for the role right from the beginning.
"When I first pitched the idea of doing a Blade movie, the studio felt there were only three actors who could possible do the role: Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington and Lawrence Fishburne," Goyer said.

Word has it that Triple H is under consideration for a role in the latest Blade installment, "Blade: Trinity".
HHH has been downplaying this, however, as he doesn't want to look like another wrestler who resorts to movie roles, even though that is said to be where his heart lies.
New Line has declined comment on HHH specifically, but did mention that casting is still going on - which means that HHH has not locked on a role for the film, but has not been passed up either.

There have been rumors that Trinity will lead to a spin off for the Nightstalkers and while I’m still open to the idea, I’m not jumping up and down with joy at the concept.

This is a bit stupid really, because the FBI barely feature in the film after an early raid on Blade HQ in which Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) dies for the second time.
The main problem with the film is that Blade is more or less reduced to Second Banana status in his own movie.
As a result, Reynolds is the best thing in the film, though Parker Posey is good campy value and it’s nice to see that someone’s finally had the sense to cast her as a vampire.

I love the first two blade films and had high hopes for this one when I read that the writer of the first two was directing this one.
Blade seems oddly detached from the plot - the best scenes and moments go to his co-stars - and Snipes gives the impression that he's just going through the motions, slaughtering vampires by the dozen because, well, that's what Blade does.
Either that or all the vampires in the film were extremely woosy.
